I agree. When I use to got to Japan 15-20yrs ago it was shear excitement visiting even the local toy stores because they had a bunch of RC stuff. Akihabara was the bomb.
Now, unless you go to a specific hobby store YAWN~!!
I can get pretty much anything I want online. It's more my knowledge that is limiting me from finding the real cool stuff I want...which could be a good thing looking at my wallet.

Having been to all the stores mentioned in here. By far the best was RC champ Osaka. It's a bit of a hike from Tokyo. I think we spent close to two hours walking around the store. Plus there is a track upstairs. It was mega grip asphalt but has since changed to carpet.
Still all the stores were better than anything we have here in Aus.
Just be careful what day you go to these stores as some are closed on different days from memory.
