Default Need advice on worn carbon fiber chassis

Hello to all...

I recently acquired a car with a carbon fiber chassis that is worn down. I can feel the weave with my fingers already and it's badly worn on the sides. Since this is a hard to find chassis, I would like to prolong the life of it.

My plans are:

1. Spray it with a clear coat or paint it. -which paint do I use if this is possible?

2. Put a chassis protector. - what kind and where to buy?

3. Do both

Is this chassis still usable?

I uploaded pictures for your comments. I am no expert and need advice from experienced guys like you.

Thank you.

Not sure about adding strength with paint but for chassis protector material (sheet plastic sticker material) check out TQRcracing. They sell it Ina sheet so you can cut to fit. Just look up any kit on their site, they'll list it as an optional part to that kit. -if your having a hard time finding it. I have used the material, not sure how much stength it will add. It does protect the chassis, but its not very rigid ...it may help?

It's more for cosmetics sir. My goal is to preserve the finish of the chassis.

I would just put a chassis protector on it and call it good. About to do it with my B44.1 as well due to same issues.

sounds good sir.

I looked around and can only find the yeah racing brand. A bit too thick for me. I was wondering where you can find the protectors which have a design on them. It's popular with the drift chassis.

Has anybody tried spraying clear coat on their chassis?

u can repair cf to a point with c.a glue. Cover the area, then sand it back.
I've also experimented with dremmeling bits of old cf parts into dust and mixing it with araldite to repair small cf parts. It seems to work ok. Dries fast. Gotta be quick

use this works really well. its sort of thick but has good protection. I tried those thin ones before and they are useless ..ones scrape and the things comes off.
no need to cover the entire chassis its just a wast just cut some strips in areas that gets scratched. can show you some pics of mine if you want

Thank you for all the replies.

All good ideas!

This chassis will actually be built for my shelf collection and a few fun runs.

I'm just a bit concerned on the thickness or rather thinness of the chassis. As you can see, the thinnest point is 1.5mm ish on the sides.

Have you thought about seeing if someone like SNR or Vectorworks can reproduce the chassis for you? That's obviously going to cost more than a chassis protector but depending on how valuable the car is to you, it may be worth it.

I have sprayed clear krylon on "shelf queens" before. Helps to restore the look. Maybe a little polishing afterward to smooth it all out. Pledge/Future floor polish also works.

Good luck!

I did some research.

Duplicolor clear coat can be used to temporarily repair/preserve the chassis.

That chassis has been discontinued and is hard to find nowadays. I do hope somebody will sell theirs.
