Questions?? first RC ... exceed madspeed drifter / rubber tires?

My buddy just got a couple nitro rc buggys and had a chance to play with them today.
My sons birthday is coming up and think he would like an rc drift car.

I dont want to spend alot so think I will order him an exceed madspeed drift king for $110.
I see the stock tires are too hard and make it impossible for it to get to top speeds without a very long stretch of asphalt.

I read about a guy who races this car using rubber street force gp duratrax tires.
I am wondering if I just need to get the tires and if they will fit on the exceed drifters rims or if i need new rims and tires?

also read the stock battery pack isnt very good. Can I run lipo batt without having to upgrade a bunch of other components? If not whats a good cheap batt pack to order?

I think ill get one of these for myself and go brushless eventually.
Would like to hear any opinions of this drifter and tire / batt options.

thanks
