Was there ever a Yokomo FWD? The Yokomo YR F2, if so can someone post a photo of it. I've heard that it was outlawed because it handle so well. I would really appreciate it if someone could post photos of it! Thanks.

I've got a YR-F2 Special in my garage, it was Yokomo's FWD car when TC were in their infancy and companies were making FWD and 4WD cars. The motor is in the front of the car and the batteries run down the middle. I raced it once but the front tires spin pretty good coming out of sharp corners, other than that it did handle pretty good as long as the track was pretty flowing.

I once owned two of these Yokomo FWD sedans and they were a lot of fun. The handling was different than a 4WD sedan but easy to adapt to once you had some wheel time. The lack of any real suspension was a drawback as was a complete lack of any spare parts. Still.....a neat design.

That's not true, they had a very nice suspension, the Special completely independent, the glassfiber chasiss one had the front plate with only one damper in the center, whilst at the back the rear arm plate was one piece, though it had two dampers. These plates acted as a sort of roll bar as well due to the design. The special carbon fiber chassis only had this rollbar effect on the front though it had two dampers.

Google it, you'll find plenty of images and parts as well.

One unopened in box sold recently in Oz out of a collection of I think at least two. Keep an eye out, they pop up every now and then.

With that thick front plate there will be no independent front suspension.

There wasn't much on the front to begin with. It actually suffer the more independent the suspension got in the front. I played with taking some of the
graphite off of a special front tower when I tried racing mine. Not the best move. One wheel tended too reload coming out of corners.

Not sure I follow. What do you mean by "reload"?

True, there wasn't much independence, and surprisingly there was more in the single front damper GF version, but the plate was rather thin and had the cutouts to thin it even further which the picture above doesn't have.

Sorry about that. I was replying from my phone and the spell correct got me. I meant unload not reload. Meaning no power was going to that wheel at all. Trying to lock the diff down only presented the dreaded push going into corners. So I went back to the stock tower from the "special". I'm in the process of building a special on a non-special graphite chassis. I just have to find somewhere to countersink graphite for me.
