Default Battery life (not run time)

I found this on Team Trinitys site:

"How many charges should I get for the lifetime of my pack?
We have packs in a controlled environment that went well over 40 runs with numbers consistent to the first run. After that, they are still good enough for practice or stock racing, but their best discharges are gone forever. Runtime will suffer first on older packs."

Now, I'm racing at a casual club level and I dont want to buy new packs for every 40 runs.

So I wonder, do someone know how big performance degradation there's talked about?

And are there any ways to prolong lifetime?

Do some of you have any hard evidence, that proves that lower charge rate prolong lifetime?

FYI: I'm already using an reasonably peak detect charger, I always store packs discharged and I'm using an active equalizer. And I let my packs cool down before next charge. I'm using Sanyo cells, NiCd1700, NiCd2000, NiCd2400 and NiMh3000 HV.

PS: I'm also sending this question to Team Trinity.

My experience is that NiCds last for a lifetime if threated properly. NiMh packs lose quite easily 20s but after that the capacity stabilizes. The internal resistance raises slowly, but a zap in my experience brings the punch right back to where it was. That lost capacity is never regained.

About NiCd, I've experienced the same. But then again, I aint got a CE Turbo 35 or something similar, so if my packs very slowly degrade over time, well I will probably not notice.

I'm very new to NiMh's, I just got my first pack yesterday. I've only tried it once, wow. However, I'm running stock, so runtime aint an issue for me. But punch are.... Wont using an active equalizer help maintin punch? (0,6 volt / cell)
