12th scale OUTLAW

I'm not upset with the world, I just want to see 12th scale come back everywhere. I think the chassis can handle it. The CRC Gen X LE is getting an enema. Time for turbo!

So, I'm going to propose a 12th scale 2S shorty boosted with turbo class. YOU have to decide what motor the TRACK needs. After running my Roadkill 10 for over a week, I have pity for the little guys. Sure 12th mod is cool, why can't it be cooler. I took my skirt off August 15, 2014 to run a Mod 235 Pro10 pan car indoor. You know what, I like it.

How would this differ from mod running on 1s LiPo, except for the second cell? The total energy in a 2s battery will be the same as a 1s if they weigh the same.

Took my skirt off a while ago....
2s in the 1s size is awesome! No special esc and no real specialist gearing.
eg: a 70-80 mm rollout will do-
21.5- 2s is at 10.5t 1s speed (same top speed- 800mah per run ).
10.5- 2s is mod speed (1800mah in a run)
And in Japan they do 30t motors which must be slower then 21.5.
NO special rotors needed either, you can basically pull your speedy and motor from most common F1 setups and race.

Obviously if you run smaller then 10.5 it would be outrageously fast but you would have traction issues..... I actually ran 2s 10.5 @ 90% EPA, was really good.

Easier on the wallet. One shorty pack for the average racer can span many 1/10 classes. No special electronics are needed. I can race F1, 12th, USGT, LM-1, Mini all with the same gear just by installing to a different chassis. It's those guys that see the 12th and say that's cool, but I'll need $$$, no thanks. Half the guys I race with are parts robbers. They take what they need from one car and put it in another to run, sometimes between heats.

So would that be for an outdoor track? Even in a parking lot, my TC6 is ridiculous on 2s with an 8.5 so I'd imagine the 1/12th would be even more so?

Its up to you. Right motor for the conditions.

The theory is good, except that a 2s shorty as used in 1/10 scale cars is taller than a 1s cell. It may not fit in a 1/12 scale car, depending on the car and body used.

There are 2s batteries made using a 1s-sized case, but they have less capacity than a shorty, so they might not be a good choice for a 1/10 scale car.

If you set a rule that said the battery must have the same maximum size and weight as a ROAR-spec 1s, then the 1s and 2s (or 3s, if someone ever made one) cars can run together in the same class. That sounds good to me.

EDIT: Actually, you probably don't even need that rule, as the track conditions may determine what battery to use. On a big track where a 1s car doesn't make run time, then the 2s shorty would be good, since it could contain more energy. But on a high-traction track, a 1s would be better, as the lower CG would give higher cornering speeds before traction rolling.

By the way, 2s 1/12 scale has been brought up a few (hundred) times in the 1/12 forum.

Tried 2s saddle pack lipo on an old rc12 tbar car with 13.5T boost... lots of fun.

+ YouTube Video

I could get into this format. All I would need is a used chassis, tires and a body. All that is needed is someone to write up a set of guidlines/rules, like USVTA/USGT, and keep them simple. This class would be perfect for that new Protoform 1/12th GT body

Added with 12th scale rubber tires for outdoor asphalt track

Diameter = 55 - 60 mm

:)

avs 08-24-2014 10:45 AM

aren't you describing something like the Schumacher supastox car for the 1/12 gt class that has been growing in England?

I had seen a car that someone had made custom rubber tires for his 12 scale. He had used tamiya mini tires , cut them and slid them over the trued foams and glued them. Would bring new life into one of the purest forms of rc racing. I miss running 12 scale......

Hmm... I prefer to use the LM body, instead of GT body.... :)

Interesting idea..... combined with 2S ESC and Lipo....

I will be looking for any available options in the market ...

Most good 1s esc's are also able to run 2s lipos, so I am wondering why the reasoning. I used to run a 1/10 235 pan car inside a "smallish" carpet track it was super fun and good practice. The cars were slower back then but it was a full blown mod car of its day. Kinda hard to have any other cars on the track at the same time though:lol:. I would just rather bring back the 235 cars in a safer speed class then try to re-invent or add more classes to an already full 1/12 list.

I just ordered that body and am interested to see how it fits my Speedmerchant Rev 7 if it fits at all. The specs show it a bit narrower than the AMR12 I'm used to running. Also looking for a 2s lipo in a similar size to the 1s. This car is being built strictly for fun so not trying to create any new classes locally. I'm content with Touring Car with some F1 on occasion for now.
