Tamiya TRF419
#3991
It appears as of June 1st, Tamiya USA has implemented an MAP with its resellers. Basically 20% higher than before.
So a TRF419X WS is now $909 at Tower and with a tower club coupon, you receive $84 off... that’s $825.
The new TRF103 is $448 - $52 = $397
i guess I won’t be buying any new Tamiya kits.. lol

Maybe it's the consequence of Trump's "buy-american"...who really knows...

This has nothing to do with Trump.
Retailers still receive wholesale pricing when they buy from Tamiya. The MAP sets a floor as how low they can go to sell the kit. Which makes the retailers margin on each kit higher.. yet they will sell less kits.. since majority of us know what we were able to pay for them.
The idea behind implementing an MAP is to elevate a brands status and stop heavy discounting. it works for luxury brands such as Hermes for instance.
In RC realm X-ray has claimed that title, so if this move is Tamiya attempt to place themselves above X-ray..well you can’t just demand higher prices and expect to get there. In addition you can’t demand higher prices across all product groups.. their TA and TB line are not a cut above the competition.. then there is their nostalgic series.. a hornet kit now costs $160?

Well they clearly thought about it and felt it was a good idea. Now they will face the consequences of their decision.
I consider myself a big Tamiya fan and have more than 10 Tamiya kits. I have been very critical of Tamiya USA lately as they are not doing a good job of keeping replacement parts in inventory. With the implemention of the MAP, Tamiya USA has now lost my support.
Last time I bought a Tamiya kit.. Towers price with the coupon was around the same as RCMart. So I purchased through Tower. Now, RCMart will be much cheaper.. so that’s where I will be shopping from and how continuing to support the brand.

Unfortunately TQ RC Racing has always been handcuffed by Tamiya USA and has had to ASK for ridiculous money for their kits.
However, TQ single handedly helped us bring F1 back to life about 8 or 9 years ago by loading up it's shelves with Tamiya F103 and then F104 parts, tires etc.
All the other F1 kit manufacturers definitely owe Sean at TQ a debt of gratitude for the growing popularity of F1 since then.
He is still a top "go to" shop for all our F1 paraphernalia

TQ hands down always has been a great place for Tamiya parts and accessories.

Why do you have to use the 05G sus mounts only with trf419x arms? Are they shorter? I am currently running my TRF419 with 05g all around in the front with Tamiya #54740.

Pivot point is further inside. The 419x arms are designed for wider stance (05G) and SSBB. And the plastic is more harder than the conventional carbon reinforced plastic.

Price increase
I heard that big T was raising prices in the US. I do buy a lot of stuff from China but I feel like if you use Tamiya to race with you need multiple carts at different retailers. Very rarely can I get everything I want or need from one source. frustrating sometimes but using Tamiya stuff is kind of nostalgic and makes me smile so I'll keep digging for good deals on Tamiya products. Everyone has a budget that thay are willing to spend. From my experience the fun level is not equal to how much you pay.
