I've never raced on asphalt but will be this weekend.. only been racing carpet and though I do see tire wear, I've been using the same tires for months (Sorex 28/32). I'm sure they'll slow but so am I.
Keep in mind, we are running mod TC and pushing the cars even though it is practice. Add in the GA summer heat to a sun filled asphalt track with low grip (the track is technically closed and abandoned, we come and clean it up and run), and a 4T motor with light boost, and we eat tires. I am not sure if it being a flowing track is better or worse, as we carry some crazy corner speeds. We wear left side everything as well due to a right hand sweeper taken at 80% throttle and several hard and fast right hand turns.

Tossed up a video of the track.

This is the second run on a new car, poor tire choice (Sweep 32's), and just a lot of mistakes in driving, but you get the idea of what we are running on.

Where can I find the SR40EX premounts? I can't seem to find any in stock or even fewer online shops that stock Solaris at all.

Seems kind of strange that stock is so limited with so few dealers selling them.

Stock was limited on the 40s and we purchased what was available. As soon as we can obtain more 40s, we will update the inventory on our Web site.

So, what is this "Ring of Death" I'm reading about on page 2. Been racing 1/10 TC6.2 since May and haven't heard the term before....so what does the 'ring' look like?

Can someone post some pics of tires with said 'ring'? (thanks)

I've run about 10-12 4 minute runs with a set of Solaris 35s and they still seem to be gripping well.

its the wear line that develops on the inside of your tyres.

caused by aggresive steering. the tyre stretches, and then wears on the line of the insert.

and then this happens.

Sorry, term I have gathered since running onroad. I can grab a picture when I get home, but it is a grove the runs the circumference of the tire, on the inside usually where the tire gets pinched by the insert. It is a common failure point where a tire finally lets go, but it causes traction loss as well. On the layout I posted, we get it on the left rear tire first, right rear next, then left front. My impression is it should happen less on front tires unless you are oversteering the car and causing severe slip angles. On the rear we run pretty aggressive toe coupled with high corner speeds and heavy rear cornering forces (hopefully you are accelerating through the corner, putting the most pressure on the outside rear tire) which causes this to happen.

I do get the drove on the front tires more on carpet with the tight 180's, but on asphalt, I have been fighting it much more on the rear.

Simply it is a sign that it is time to replace the tires.

Thanks for the pics!!! After checking my Solaris 35 tires it appears that a faint line is visible on 3 of them......looks like new tires are in order.

The Sorex 36s on my other car are not showing the same line and they have more laps on them.

Finding a lot of rubber on the inside of the body using Solaris 35s (21.5 spec-gt) and it's hooking up well and almost no rubber on my other the car body with Sorex 36s (17.5 blinky). Also turning 1 more lap with the GT car. Will be running Solaris 35s on both cars next time out to see if it's tires or set-up (I suspect it's mostly tires).

Can anyone suggest a pre-mount tyre that has balance of good wear and traction?

Past 3 race nights I've used 32 Volante Golds and starting to see the outline of the foam and even slight tear on the outer tyre. Will test Ride Reds next.

I have found that each pavement track is totally different for how a tire wears. Also if running too hard of s tire can cause bad wear characteristics. If you can dial in a soft tire with a really good setup -car is not pushing and not loose-tire wear goes way down. Track prep and cleanliness is also a huge factor in tire wear. Sweep qts32's work really well for me but when it warms up I use sweep exp36's . Using tire warmers and proper tire prep also helps to reduce wear as the tire generates more grip right from the start of a run.

I'm using additive and setting it to 55deg on the warmer as lately our track at night has been around 10-15deg air temp.

How long do the Sweeps last you?
