What's needed to convert the GT-4 Rubber Tire edition back to foam tire edition? Is spacers the only difference?
Can the car hold a 2s lipo? I want to use 2s 21.5 at my local track on rubber tires. 2s shorty should fit. |
WGT-R
I'm running a Fantom FR-1 R type 17.5 with 42* on the can, 88 spur, 36 pinion. I have the battery transverse and back. All is stock out of the box except I've put Associated .018 springs up front. Driving wise I can put it where I want it, but it's lacking a little punch and top end. Not sure if I should back off a little timing and go up on pinion or just go up on timing a couple degrees at a time. It's really good, just not great.
Any suggestions for timing and gearing would be appreciated! |
maybe drop 2 teeth on the pinion, and a little more timing, I run a d4 1s 17.5 with a 88/34 and 52* timing and it has good rip,and good top end.on our track.(80x36)

Ran the motor in the chassis on a motor checker and found 4000 RPM. Timing is 47* average on the sensor, pulling 4.0A and just over 3000KV. |
Wow!
I put the motor on a tester, set it to 4A draw. Then geared the car 34/88. Set the front end to 4* caster and 1.5* camber and the car flies. I'm now working hard to get my skills up to the potential of the car. I have 5k in the tubes, the rest of the rear end is right out of the kit. Center shock has 60 Losi oil in it with the gold kit spring. Front springs are .018s. Battery is transverse and back. ESC is right behind the servo. Ackerman is about 3mm forward at the servo with turnbuckles parallel. Front ride height is 5.5mm, rear is at 6.0mm. It turns when and where I want it to on and off power.
Clean it, Check it, Charge it, Run it. Only changes so far are titanium axles and camber turnbuckles. Peace of mind. |
This chassis is just plain awesome in WGT-R. I'm not a lead pack driver, yet. The car is there.
So, here is my setup: Front: 4* caster 1.5 * camber 5.5mm front ride height 0.018 SpeedMerchant front springs 1.0mm droop CRC Rubber tires and rims I'm also running the front bumper with the CRC foam bumper. Links parallel to the ground, about 3mm forward on the servo. Middle: Gold shock 60 wt. Losi oil Kit mounting position Sag is about .5mm after pushing the chassis down. It returns to flat in about 2 feet of rolling. Rear: 6mm ride height 2.0mm droop CRC Rubber tires and rims Kit tweak springs on the links, 1/4 turn past touching 10k in the tubes The rest. Transverse battery back, but about 1/4" forward (to the holes drilled on the WGT 4-R chassis plate.) Trackstar Gen II ESC mounted center directly behind the servo. Saucing with SXT 3.0 full rears and fronts full to start, down to 1/2 when traction comes up. Key is to keep the dual rate within the slip angle. Too much throw and you will either push or grip roll. |

how much rear pod droop do you run? is your track smooth, or bumpy?
|
have you tried putting any droop in the front end of the car? I put some longer king pins in and shimed them up until I had about 1.5 mm of droop in the front. give it a try and let me know what you think.

I have right around 1.0 of droop and like it, but not afraid to experiment. What longer king pins are you using?
and just used brass motor spacers on top of the upper pivot ball. oh and 4 crc brass pivot balls, instead of the kit ones. (never got they to move freely enough) |
From the Rev 8 thread.
The plastic parts can be ordered here individually: https://www.shapeways.com/search?q=speedmerchant&type= The balance of the upgrade kit is part #7050 from SpeedMerchant. http://teamspeedmerchant.com/shop/pa...l/smr7050.html

I'm having an issue with traction rolling and can't seem to cure it. I'm running the reactive caster front end.
5* blocks 2 shims forward, 1 back .018 front springs 10k lube on the king pins CRC WGT-R tires. .5mm front droop. Rear is like out of the kit. Ride height is 5.5 rear, 5.0 front. |
