1300mah battery + 5.5 modified motor = very short run time. Although that is a pretty old 5.5 so it doesn't draw as much amps as current motors so it may be ok run time wise. The nitro truck looks like it is in good shape though I'm not sure which one it is. Was it a good deal? You got 2 good, albeit old, vehicles + electronics for only $200...yeah I'd say you got a good deal. For just blasting around the cars will be fine despite their age. If you plan to race they'll be fine as an entry level racer but once you get the basics down you'll need to move to a more modern chassis to be competitive.

That depends on your budget.

Something like this will be quicker and will give you much longer run times.

Okay if I wanted to not empty my bank account but still get decent quality fast electronics what would be my best route??
