The reedy 767+/766- combo works really well on the mvp(cut brushes). This combo does extend the comm life,but I notice that the faster you get a stocker to go the more maintenance is needed! Even with "low wear" brushes such as 766's. Remember the good 'ol days when you could use the same two brushes in the same stocker?
I used putnam green+/blue- combo for the handout motor when nor. cal. had the on road indoor nat's. Very fast,but really jard on the comm. I'm saving the leftover green & blue for my next big event. Right now I'm using 767's on it, I'll see how it works out this weekend and report back--Al

Does anyone know how or where to start gearing an orion core stock motor? This would be on a short indoor track in a xxxs touring car. Let me know..........

springs also make a big impact on the p[erformance of the core motors, and when built right, the springs can change upto 2,000 rpm's and 4w of power. so be careful

Has anybody tried the Promatch cavity brushs? Are they similar in compound to Reedy or Fantom brushs.
Is better to run serrated 767 brushs for onroad racing? I looking to get a good balance between torq/rpm?

Why are people using two different brush for their stock motor? What does it do for the motor.

cavity - hole in the face of the brush, allows for a little more rpm, someitmes power comes up aswell, all depends on the motor
slot - horizontal or veritcal slots effect every motor different, but some help rpm, others help torque. to big of a variance to tell ya anything forsure.
if u run 767 +/- you will always bee close. find someone with a dyno and find the best springs for the motor w/ 767's and you'll be consistant and fast. if u wanna get fancy with brushes, then u have to have a way to know what your doing (ie. dyno). otherwise you'll drive yourself crazy and you become really random, senseless, and out to lunch (sounds like me before the use of a dyno)

I used bulit motorsports purple power drops work good on motors especially with brushes that have a high silver content like putnam brushes. It doesn't make the motor dirty and last a full race.

I used 3 different motors yesterday in the three qualifying rounds of TC Stock. Track setup was a very flowing track with 3 low speed corners. 120 foot straight. High traction, sprayed asphalt. Ran Sorex 36R's with HPI blues - first two rounds and Sorex 36R's with Sorex Type A firms in the third. Used Sanyo HV's on all rounds charged at 6.5 amps. I did use Tribo synthetic comm drops on each motor.
Atlas Stock - beginning gearing (TC3) - 98 spur, 33 pinion = 7.42
- used Putnam Green & Blue brush combination with tweaked Epic Red & Green springs (15 degree extra spring tension)
Best lap time 15.7 (track temp over 120) - could have geared up one more tooth on the pinion
GM3 - 98 spur/34 pinion - 7.20
- used Putnam Green & Blue brush combination with tweaked Epic Red & Green springs (15 degree extra spring tension) - Best lap time 15.8 Track temp over 110
P2K - 98 spur/41 pinion - 5.97 - used Putnam Green & Blue brush combination with tweaked Epic Red & Green springs (15 degree extra spring tension) - best lap time 15.6 - Track temp at 89
The new Atlas stock is a tri-rotor design, has one more lamination than a GM3 in the center rib. Out of the box, one brush hood perfectly aligned for each motor, had to slightly adjust one hood on each of the two motors purchased.
I did NOT dyno either of the motors.......sorry.....dyno in for repairs. Besides.....the TRACK is the real dyno test!
I do believe this will make a killer motor for 1/12th, TC, and oval racing.
If you have good/great corner speed, the motor will perform. For those that do NOT have the corner speed, go find it in your chassis setup.
