Just out of curiosity, what ratio is everyone using for your Orion Core's or Peak Hellfires? I'm currently at 6.5, just wondering....

I run 6.34 with an MVP. I've run up as high as 5.68 but that was on a huge track, could have gone higher too...

5.7 is aobut right on large tracks... it will cook... I have gone 5.43, but I think it got too hot, typical of MVP.

Right now I'm running an orion core with a ratio of 4.63, it sounds like a stupidly high ratio, but I started out at about 5.5 and couldn't understand why I was getting whooped.

We race on a huge track, at night when it's pretty cool, everyone else is running about the same ratio. The motor comes off hardly warm.

Joe: Hellfire we run 1 tooth taller than GM3, same gearing as P2K2. 7.5 is overall, but we run on carpet using foams. Rollout is 26.1 for the hellfire. Track is an oval and TC run in the center area also. Line is 190'. On the open track, asphalt, with a 160' straight ~ 365', we run 6.59 with a rollout of 31.5 (rubber tires).

Blueboy: I bought a P2K2 Pro Friday and it has green positive, red negitive with the 4499 brushes. I aligned the hoods and trued the comm after breakin and got some good numbers on my dyno with this motor. Ran good in saturday's race .

Crud...I tried using ratios anywhere from 7 to 5.8 on my track this sunday, I couldn't get any speed, I was getting my doors blown off in the straights and not very much infield speed either. Here's a diagram of my track, I totally suck at this gearing, any help would be appreciated.

Joe

I don't have any experience with the two motors you mention, but here's how I would go about gearing for your track. I'll assume that you go clockwise. I would start out at 6.00:1. As I enter the long straightaway, I would squash the throttle and watch where I top out on speed. My guess is that the car would top out midway down the straight. I would go up one tooth on the pinion until the car tops out just as you let off for the turn at the end of the straight. Once you have that taken care of, you can adjust for the rest of the track, but you should be on the money if you gear that way. I run a P2K2 in my XXX-S and my guess is that I'd run either 5.88:1 or 5.68:1 on that track. Good luck!

kraig - I have 3 favorite GM3's a trinity, a pro-match, and a T1 (yours) and so far it's holding up the best, seeing as my pro-match just blew it self running the same gearing as my T1. How much are new GM3's? i wish to replace that motor with another of yours.
thanks.
