Getting into RC racing

Hi everyone -

I have been going to some races and having loads of fun. The guys I race with use 21.5t motors so it is nice and slow. I currently have a tc4 that i beat on and ran outside for the last 7 years. It has problems gearing with brushless motors and I really dont want to start modding it like crazy. Also, changing the gears out takes forever (have to take the diff apart)

Money really doesn't matter as I feel I can treat this car nice and it will last me a long time. As for features, I really would like to have the gears change very quickly and easily so I can test out different gearing on the track without rebuilding the car. A lot of guys say x-ray, but wanted to open it up to ideas before I made a purchase.

Thanks
The Yellow Dart

I'm partial to the Serpent S411 myself, but a big part of getting the kit was that there were guys already running the car at the track, and parts are much cheaper than Xray. Parts support at the LHS doesn't exist unless you race Traxxas here so I've been ordering all my spares from Rcmart and Rcmarket without issue.

Another car to consider would be the soon to be available Durango DETC410. It looks to be cheaper than the others, comes with great upgrades over the other brands (like djc's) and parts should be cheap and readily available.

Whatever you go though, enjoy it!

Changing the spur on the TC4 is a pain but not something you have to do all that often.

The pinion is easily changed and typically once you have a spur to suit the range of pinions you will only need to remove the spur if changing motor turns or you strip the teeth.

In terms of which car to buy next I narrowed my choice down to

VBC D06
Xray
Yok
TRF418

TRF was at the bottom of the list due to no local part support I ended up with the yok as the VBC and xray were out of stock.

IMO, run what you have. The TC4 is fine for entry level. Upgrade the chassis after your first 6-12 months of racing. Use what you have now with an ESC and motor that will suit the 21.5 class you mentioned.
