I have been using the spray on sticky kicks sauce to clean my tires lately with really good results. I think it might actually be re-bottled WD40 though.
seriously...

I use odorless mineral spirits (the normal petroleum-based stuff, not the "green" stuff). It works great, doesn't stink, doesn't give me a headache, and costs 10% of motor cleaner: $14 per gallon at WallyWorld! That's enough to last a few years.

Rubber tires - SXT
Foam tires - masking tape (I wrap the tire and remove the dead rubber, no cleaning agents are applied to the tire.

On carpet, the same additive you are running and a rag.
On Asphalt, mainly lighter fluid and a rag.

Motor spray or at a push brake cleaner. If I have neither then just additive. All do a decent job of it!
