Maybe it just was not selling well at Tower. Nitro House has both the electric and nitro version, plus I've seen some deals on E-Bay for new cars.

Well I certainly hope it is not discontinued too, I just got one for Christmas! (celebrated early, I know)

Do you guys know what diameter motors will work? I was thinking about throwing in a Castle 1717 or a Poseidon 1717, both with 48.25mm diameters.

Also what's the biggest pinion you can fit?

I am excited about putting the rest of this bad boy together! I've built a car from a roller before but I've never had a kit or anything with this much setup.

Don't know why Tower has been saying we are disco-ing the X3 but we have not. I have not got the reason in why they say that and I have been getting those Tower customers calling us . Maybe their discounts are too steep and don't make any money on them, so if you want you can go to Nitrohouse or Eofna.com for a purchase, some kits are out of stock right now.

They really are 2 different class of cars. The X3 is a 325-30mm wheel based car, where as the Inferno is a 360mm wheelbase.

I prefer the more scale look of the 360mm class, however body selection is limited to mainly Kyosho's. The 325-30mm base have a much bigger selection of bodies, however they are less scale looking.

As for which to recommend, I can't say as I own the X3 and another converted GT8-Lite, both are 330mm wheel base.

I did decide to keep to ofna. I watched a few of ggjflyguy (YouTube username) videos and he made the x3 sound like it was awful, but that was just one person's experience.

I like the fact that the ofna has aluminum shocks and shock towers as well as a center spool and lower gear ratio. Reaper, I thought I also saw you said it has 4 spiders in the diff as opposed to 2?

Anyway, thanks guys! I will post updates as I get it built.

Out o the box the X3 kit car is a much better performing car compared to the Kyosho.
The only upgrade to be looked at is the 10° C-hubs to improve steering.

The Serpent Cobra GT is an even better solution with an endless list of upgrades available from the manufacturer itself. Very nice toy if you can effort it.

After having been playing with the X3 over most of last season having had a lot of fun the Serpent is the next toy sitting on my desk already, desperately waiting for the winter to pass away.

I know my next 1/8 on road would be a Inferno or other 360mm wheel base car. I just really like the scale look of those cars.

my friend also bought himself a kyosho because he liked the more scale look. he took it out the box, found the body was torn, the center diff was leaking, so he rebuilt it, discovered the 2 spider gear system and took it to the local hobbyshop and put it up for sale........he should have his X3 by tomorrow. the thing is that we are in South Africa, things cost us literally 11 times more than the usa....and on a kit we look at at least $100 shipping. regardless, quality is quality and the amount of money needed to get the kyosho up to the level of the X3 is quite large.....infact, you could buy you a 2nd x3 gt roller almost for the cost. but if you had money growing on trees its problem to buy you a Kyosho Gt2 nitro, strip it, buy a rc monster 2 speed brushless conversion and a nice 1/8 combo, upgrade the shafts to cvds, cnc towers, ally shocks and then add the spiders. should end up somewhere at the $1000 mark if not a little over lol.....nooooo thanks

How are you guys going about lowering your x3 to proper ride height? Mine came with the springs completely loose and even adjusting the preload didn't make it sit right. I know I can put fuel tubing inside the shock and shorten up the travel to make it right, but it seems like there should be something else? Out of the box the car shouldn't sit like it does or have such loose springs. All the pictures on the box show it sitting lower too.

Yes. They use Hong Nor part numbers since they don't appear to be affiliated with OFNA. And some in house part numbers for others items like their brake kit, etc.

So the X3 is actually discontinued... Thanks for being honest about that. NOT.
