FASTER 17.5 MOTOR TRICKS

I recently attended a local race meeting.
The disparagy between the motors in use was staggering.

I would like to hear what everyone is doing to maximize speed and power from these mills.

How does one determine in a batch of motors which is going to be the best?

no tricks just drive faster and have the gearing correct for the track.

If you have your car set up well and are keeping up your corner speed and getting good exit speed, thats 98% what its all about.

There's undoubtedly differences in 17.5 blinky motors.

Gearing correctly, having the right motor timing for best efficiency/rotor slip, making sure the bearings are aligned and the rotor slides freely between them, light bearing oil, good stator and rotor numbers, and shimming are all important.

No cheats.

Want a good motor? Buy a lot of motors or find someone to get you a good one. You're not going to turn a dud into a stud, but you can polish your turd.

Other options: Run mod or a boosted class.

That said, with 17.5 I run what I've brung and try to make up time as possible in the entry/mid corner.

rotors-TC HT 12.5 is usually always top choice

bearings-Stock 99% the racers will never feel the difference nor go faster with high dollar ones

timing-Depends on track size and layouts and motor style..D3.5 25* is common Kill shot HT 57* is common.


gearing- To many factors..Track size..Motor brand..Rotor style..But most starting points are about 3.80

torque vs rpm..Most tracks HT


cheats- No need..Wrench..Practice..Wrench..Practice..A fast car is a free car..a slow car is a tight easy driving car. Total car prep and driving is worth more than any extra HP. Practice make changes watch lap times.

If you buy a GOOD motor and get a ht rotor and set he timing right and take care of if as well as gear it correctly youd be better off spending time practicing and making your car the best it can be

buy a newer generation motor, most are better with a high torque rotor. for 17.5 racing, ive found new is better, but the odd oldie can blow you away still - when geared properly and driver is good.
