New car time
Trying to decide between the following kits so any feedback is greatly appreciated. I race VTA and 21.5 USGT on asphalt and carpet.
Spec-R R1 Pro
VBC Ghost
Hobao H4e
TOP Photon EX
Yokomo BD7 ver.RS
Trying to keep the kit plus some spares under $400.
Thanks!

If you stretch your budget a little you can buy 90% of the top-spec cars on the market. Cars with proven quality and lots of support. All those cars are a compromise or risk in some way.

This is probably the number 1 question asked on the forum. The answers will always vary depending on personal preference. I won't suggest a particular car but I'll give you something to think about.
What brands are supported by your local shop ??
Have you considered a supply of critical parts in your budget?
Are you considering the continued costs (like tires/wheels/bodies) in your budget?
Personally, I find no great reason to buy a top of the line chassis for VTA or USGT. I run an older chassis that I bought used. Parts are easy to get online and with the extra money a new, top line car would've cost me I bought spare parts. I still ended up spending quite a bit less than most new comp cars (the same league as a BD7 for instance).
There are so many really good used cars out there. These 2 classes simply don't warrant big money spending.

I would echo what Evocar stated.
Basically asking what car to get is just a chance for everyone to vote for what they have or like the best.
my only thing to add would be to make sure the car has a lot of support from the manufacturer -are they still coming out w/ new versions of the car? or is it a vehicle that may one day soon be discontinued?
I own one of the cars in your list and love it. But I couldn't fairly say if it is the best because I have not driven all of them or owned all of them.
good luck, and it is certainly fun to be shopping ..!

Ive been running XRays for a couple years now, and every spare part I've bought has been a waste of money because they simply don't break. I run the same classes as you, cartwheeled them clear off the track at full speed in the sweeper many times.
That being said, $250-275 for a used T4'13 ( with spares most of the time) used here on the forum. That still leaves you $100+ for whatever like fresh lipos, motor, etc. Just sayin

I was looking at getting into CTA (VTA for you Americans) and was considering a Sakura TC BNIB for under $300. Looked decent for the money.

But I happened to stumble upon a used TC6.1 (w/RSD 6.2 conversion, a bunch of spare parts and a few other RSD upgrades) for under $200. I guess depending on how soon you need a TC, deals are out there if you can be patient.
