That would take us back to the early days, when the top drivers would turn up for practice with a van full of tyres and spend practice sessions days before the meeting testing every possible combination of tyre compound, insert and wheel to find the best combination. That's assuming a works team doesn't turn up with a tyre developed purely for the worlds event that no one else has. Then if it is completely open tyre rules you then use a brand new set every round.

A spec tyre means they don't spend more on tyres than their hotel and travel bills combined.

Yes, they are just painted but there a couple of bot-dots around to keep the drivers honest. I did talk to George about kerbs and they did have them in the past but found they were causing to much damage and launching cars. The flappers do a good job of slowing cars down without causing much damage or havoc to the cars around them.

Thanks Mike for the explanation
Weather it's mod or nitro cars its a fast layout we had curbs and lots of them turned into exploding jets so in the end we made it car friendly for all but you will still pay the price for cutting it close you will land on your lid

You signed up in 04 before the days of control tyres I'm sure you know why.

Ok then so why not a quality/proven/tested tire? Seems like all of these bigger events are having tire issues now. TITC and now the warm up. Tire quality shouldn't be the issue that makes these races look undesirable.

George M: Will the tire run at the worlds also be the tire used for the Asphalt nationals?

That would appear to be a very good question for the organisers of those events.

That's a question to ask the organisers who make those decisions based on proposals submitted to them by the tyre manufacturers, and I'm sure sponsorship deals come into it.

In theory if the manufacturer does their job properly it shouldn't matter what tyre is used as it's the same for everybody, but by doing their job properly the manufacturer should ensure all the tyres are the same quality and are capable of running at the speeds the touring cars are now managing. Hopefully the manufacturer now knows the problems with the tyres and should have improved versions for the Worlds.
