Default VTA Set Up Help

I am completely new to VTA. I don't spend a ton of money on my hobby. I bought a Redcat Lightning EPX car for $45 complete ready to run. I put a Novak 25.5 Club Racing motor and ESC in it. It runs pretty well, but really snaps loose coming out of the corner. I am running on a carpet oval. Now I know it's not the best choice out there, but I'm just looking for a challenge.

Anybody got any setup tips I can try? What about springs I can use to replace the stock Redcat springs. Any suggestions except buy another car would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

Download the Hudy setup guide from the Xray website. It has all the info you'll ever need.

check your rear diff - it might be too loose. I know I've had that problem in the past, and tightening the rear diff solved the problem

changing the springs and oil may be helpful, but in this case, I don't think its the issue.

you can always ask in the USVTA thread for some more specific help - the guys in there have seen a ton of different cars

The shocks and springs are very similar to the HPI Sprint 2, which I think are to stiff. I would recommend 17/14lb or 14/12 to start. This is what I did on my Sprint 2. Corally or HPI Pro4 springs will work, not real sure about AE. 40 wt oil in the front and 30 in the rear.

The EPX gear diffs only have a small amount of moly grease in them if I remember correctly. You may want to try a 500K or higher in the front diff to help the front pull the car out of the corner and help it slow the roll over the nose. It may also have 6 degree castor blocks for the drift setup, reducing the front castor should help.

Some of the Sprint 2 suspension parts will go directly on the EPX and are sometimes easier to get OR require minimal modification.

Thank you guys. I stiffened the diff, put softer springs on, and changed the shock oil. The car drives like a dream now. Even had the confidence to make a gear change for more speed. I am happy, happy, happy to quote a popular saying right now.

Sorry for the necro on this thread, but I havenít found anyone else setting up a Lightning for VTA. Did you do it?
