The Spec-RC S1 sedan is a great racer and is a great choice to start with. Under $86 from RCMart as well.

Specs and info here;

SpecR hands down! Very high quality for the price, good parts availability. Its the best "low price" tc on the market IMO. All the features of the high end chassis

the ballcups suck... but the only other thing in this pricerange you could consider is the Xray t4R when that is available, but that is an all plastic version of the t4 which with the specr you will get the full slew of aluminum and cf for $315 at tqrcracing.
there are a lot of peoples differed opinions of build quality ect but i can say having owned xray, associated, serpent ect... there isnt really a big difference at all. some things raise a brow when assembling the car but meh. there isnt a single car ive built that didnt have SOMETHING that urked me.

performance? dunno about a prospec, but my S1, the cheap crappy plastic one was able to hang with the top three in my club running top of the line cars. for your first tc, you really cannot go wrong. hell, even for a competitive intermediate tc its hard to find anything else that gives you as much for the money.
now if i could find it, id be interested in the E4JS2 but international availability seems sketch for that.

if you step up to $399 you can get into about 70% of the tc market, but for $289 for R1 or $315 for R1 Pro, i really doubt there is anything better.

no fanboi here. Comparing my s1 back to back with my Serpent with all ceramics... its just fine.

I would suggest a used car in good condition.

i went from tc6.1 to spec r r1, i performed better with the r1

if tc budget is 300 then the r1 is a good choice!
