Motor ESC Combo Recommendations

I have just built an on-road car (Ofna H4), and am looking for a good motor/esc combo to put in it.

For now I am looking for something fast for practicing on an asphalt track.
At some point I can swap in a 17t or other depending on the particular class I may race this in (yet w/ kids and wife I've been out of competitive racing for a few years).

So mostly for fun/practice sessions.

My budget is about $150-170.
I was looking at these two options:

A Castle Creations Sidewinder V3 for about $110

Or a hobbywing set up for $75
http://www.hobbypartz.com/ezrun-35a-9t-3650-motor.html

(I have a hobbywing setup in another street car and have been pleased w/ it).

I also was thinking of a Novak Edge 2 w/ a yeah racing motor??

Anyway, recommendations would be helpful.

Oh, I am sure there has to be a thread on this, yet I can not find one even after doing about 6 searches!!

Pick up one of these.

You really want sensored, and a full size 540 can motor.

^^^^ that is what you want or even the justock or extreme stock esc will be great for anything short of full on mod racing i think the justock is good down to 10.5 which is plenty quick in tourin car heck a 17.5 is fast enough for me on a track. :)

Anyone recommend the Novak Drift Spec

Seems like the Novak Drift Spec should get some consideration? Anyone have this one and like it? What are the disadvantages if it?

If you don't want to buy anything twice, then the Novak pulse/vulcan 17.5t(12.5mm rotor) is your best choice..... You can run it with boost for bashing or blinky for Racing stock....

hobbywing is the easiest route to take, with the just stock for blinky only stuff or xtreme stock for anything else, or the v2.1, very good speedo.

I ended up ordering the Hobbywing and am waiting to receive it. Good thing because I was talking to someone at the local drift track that had the Novak and HATED it. Guess it over-heats easily and cuts our occasionally?

I had the same experiences with mine, it could not take the gearing I wanted to send at it.

Another +1 to the Hobbywing Justock. The absolute BEST value on the market for a stock ESC. Easy to program, lightweight, everything. This thing competes with ESCs 4x the price.

As for a motor, you could pick up any 17.5 motor, really. 25.5 Novak motor if you want to run VTA.
