Hey guys, what's the preferred tire for asphalt?

I'm running the new hudy tires for carpet.

I don't have a lot of experience with F1 so any advice is appreciated.

My car was awful today but that's because the setup was all wrong lol. Hoping to fair a lot better next time and put mine on the podium.

Watch your rear pod droop, too much then the front will anchor itself on-throttle. Start with 1mm of rear pod droop.

i'm new to asphalt and the track i run on is green as hell. but what i was running was schumachers. i'm assuming stock springs. with a 2015... i ran 20wt oil and ended up the car liked more rear pod droop to get the rear end from sliding out on me. i think a rear diffuser would have made it even better

I've tried several different F1 tire sets for asphalt and I always go back to premounted Gravity RC's. Even when the track is cool, it finds some bite. The fronts seem to last forever which makes me wish the rears would be sold as a set. As well, the fronts seem to allow for just the right amount of push too. I don't think my car ever did a 180 on me with the Gravitys.

Also agree with cheapskate on droop. Wish I paid more attention to it last year which was my first season asphalt racing F1.

I noticed droop helped the onpower push problem

Looks like you gotta go heavier on the lube in the pods along with a stiffer spring.

also I have to run much less caster and camber than what I was running.

sucked cause my car had lots of speed, I just couldn't turn.

rest of my racing will be on carpet.

anyone notice a big difference with the alum flex chassis? I need this thing to turn for my driving style , hate using brake to get it to rotate.

Managed to meet Jan and had a chat with him at the recent TITC held in Bangkok early this year. One advice that he gave was lighter tube damping for high traction tracks and heavier for low traction. The idea behind this was to allow the car react according to available grip, a slower transitioning of weight on low traction tracks does not break the grip threshold.

I'm personally running 30k in the side tubes, 1.2 springs and Tamiya soft at the front, meant for the F104/3. They cost USD2.50 with three ratings, 2 pairs each.

Steering links further out for smoother steering (more ackermann). Also I prefer the 80t and below spur gears as they have a smaller clearence so the diff doesn't get contaminated with debris too quickly.

Running default 2deg camber and 6 deg caster. I like to go back and forth between 6 and 9 degs there (caster), and 1.5 to 2 camber. Personally I'd emphasize caster first then only camber.

Arrowmax F1 Tires (24shore) are pretty decent from experience, but they do have thin sidewalls and come with inserts which is a little too soft, you need to monitor for sidewall cracks after every run. Usually I swear by the Ride GR/Hudy tires though. Cheers

Thanks,

I added 12 deg caster and 2 deg camber on this low grip track and the car was awful. Like I almost threw it in the garbage it was embarrassing.

I think less camber and less caster is the way to go.

I'll redo the droop on the main shock,

now i got to get it setup for carpet. we have serious that goes asphalt then carpet etc

Jans setup for the 'Birds; is the starting point. After that it learn to drive the car on the CRC. you can't corner dive/brake in the corner and yank the wheel to turn anything and expect the cars to not react violently. Smoothness on the radio is everything.
