Will most F1 bodies fit the X1 chassis? I ask for it looks wider than most other F1's...

Thanks What about bodies made for the Tamiya F104. like the Mercedes/Mclaren MP24? I really would love to model that car.

I beleive they will as long as you don't add the side pods.

This is a picture of the f104 body set. The 2 extra lexan pieces are the side pods. You cut out part of the body on each side and add them to give the body that extra scale look.

Thanks Gavin, I'm not sure I fully understand the side pods, however will look at it more and try to study more pictures.

Depends on your definition of fitting. The McLaren body itself will fit over the chassis, but you will have to cut away a lot of the body to clear the side links.

To get the undercut on the sidepods Tamiya have made them as separate pieces. Here are all the pieces of the body set.

As you can see the body comes with separate sides and a separate airbox. You can run the body with the straight sides on the main body part, but even then with the Xray chassis you will have to cut away a lot of the flat lower portion of the body to clear the links, you might even need to cut a section away to let the battery stick out if you are mounting the lipo across the chassis.

If you want to use a Tamiya body and you want it to look good, choose any chassis but the Xray.

Okay, thanks for that , I understand now. The photos from http://www2.gpmd.com didn't show up until I directly pasted the link. Also your last comment on the Xray is really what I wanted to know.

Good insight Terry SC. So there should be no issues fitting the protoform f1 thirteen body on? Thats my shell of choice.

Both the Protoform Thirteen and Fourteen will fit just fine on the XRAY X1.

Whats the deal with these bodies? Are they about performance more than scale? They look less detailed, not that it's a bad thing....

Not a clue, you'll have to ask the guy from Protoform that hangs around here, I just sell all of it

No honestly I think the Fourteen looks quite good, I like the looks of it.
