They should just rename it RTS, because the outcome is never in question.

Geography is some of it. I can drive from Denver, one of the hotspots for on-road racing in the US, and not reach another track for about 9 hours. Hell, it's that long before I can reach another major city.

Geography is not directly it, I have not seen any photos like this comming from a race in the states.

Look at the photo Syndr0me. That is in a large gymnasium. Look at the track, which is like 5+ rolls in depth. The venue is different and the layout is different. Both are bigger than what we get to race on here in the states.

Why are we not doing this? A few things come to mind. A: Nobody is setting it up. B: No venue will let us in. C: Cost above all, nobody is paying for it.

Oh, I was thinking more of the lack of a series in general, not the size of the tracks.

Of the two major races on temporary tracks in the US (IIC, Snowbirds) I think only IIC would have the room to consider adding another roll of carpet. I remember 'birds being pretty packed, and I'm not sure they have much incentive to add another roll since it's as much an oval race as 'road.

It would be fun to run on a bigger track sometime, though. We don't seem to embrace the whole gymnasium thing here at all, not sure why. Maybe the logistics of moving carpet across long distances?

Ronald is melting faces in the second round of controlled practice. RTS is starting off pretty much as expected.

It's amazing to see this type of turnout at an event that only offers 3 rubber tire classes. The only race in the US that can come close is the ROAR gas off road Nationals. I wonder what the turnout would be at IIC and Snowbirds if they only offered 3 rubber tire classes? Probably not good.

You have to be careful when looking at how many "rolls deep" a Euro track is as some of their rolls are only 6-8ft wide there instead of the standard 12ft here. Looking at the car in that pic that is in the middle of the turn I am going to bet its not a 12ft roll.

Who wants to go to a race with fewer than 300 entries that only lasts three days?? That's not a big race.

Edit: And race only one class. No thanks!

After being stationed over in Germany for 3 yrs, I was able to attend a few ETS events and enjoyed every one I went to! The on-road race environment is a lot different than in the US and the European racers are more dedicated than we are, that's why they have such high turn out's for these races. If you ever have an opportunity to travel over for an ETS race you will see the difference!

I believe Rick is saying that, tongue firmly pressed in cheek, in response to some unwarranted criticism of the Reedy race...

You'll not find a bigger fan of RC than Hohwart
