I've just ordered one from them. I'm converting last years car but unsure what electrics to run. I'm thinking to try 1/10th electrics (maybe an RSX) with a 6.5t on 3s and go easy on the gearing? The RX8 and 1/8 motor looks huge on the chassis! I run in relatively low grip, cold conditions so thinking I may get away with it!
Think to use a 1/8 speedo, a 540 motor and 3s lipo.

Perhaps, if it would even fit on the motor mount. But it would be VERY heavy in a car like this. The castle 2200, IIRC, is longer than a standard 1/8th offroad buggy motor, more like a truggy motor. Probaby not a good idea to try, stick with 4 pole 540 4wd SCT motors.

So what do you think about the "Reedy Sonic 540 Mach 2 3.5 Turn Brushless Modified Motor"? I was thinking of going with this motor, 2s lipo, and 1/8 speed control. I'm new to electric and value your opinion.

Serpent recommends a 4 pole 540 motor running on 3S, with an SCT or 1/8 ESC. Based on what I've tried in 4wd SCT offroad, my preferred power setup would be a Tekin 3300kv 4 pole 540 motor running on a 4000 mAh or so 3S lipo with an RX8 Gen2 ESC. If you are less serious and want to same some $$, Hobbyking and TenShock both have 4P 540 motors for less, and Hobbywing sells the SCT Pro esc and 150A 1/8th ESC.
Leave the 2P 540 motors to the true 1/10th TC's, and save the full 1/8th motors for the 977-e when it comes out.

I've been running my 747-e with a Reedy Mach 2 5.5t coupled to a Speed Passion Reventon Pro 1.1 160amp on 2s which was surplus stuff as I upgraded my 190mm TC to Fleta Pro and Fleta ZX motors. Granted its not as fast as my nitro car and could would go quicker with an RX8 and 4p motor on 3s but to be honest I'm really enjoying it as it is. It has enough power/torque to enjoy driving it. I have an RX8 setup in my 811be which may find its way into the 747e at some point but at the moment I'm gonna stick with the old electronics out of my 190mm TC. I haven't had much of an issue with temps either - just conservative on gearing and boost settings on the ESC, oh and a big 40mm high speed fan on the motor

I don't have a 747-e (but I would if there was a track to run it at!), but I have been running 1/8th offroad buggy electric for a long time, and 4wd SCT for some time, so I'm familiar with these offroad power systems. I think, based on the size of the 747-e, and by what Serpent has posted about it, that a 1/10th scale, 2 pole 540 motor on 2S isn't going to be strong enough for this car, with its size and weight. The motor will overheat quickly and probably burn up. A regular 1/10th 540 motor has a rotor diameter of 12.5mm, 13mm at the most for a 'non ROAR legal' option rotor. (not that there is a ROAR class for the 747-e) A 4 pole 540 motor, besides having twice as many magnets on the rotor, has a rotor diameter of around 18mm. WAY bigger is size and WAY WAY more torque. If you want silly amounts of torque, the 550 4 pole motors have the same rotor diameter, but are longer. Kind of fills the power gap between 4P 540 motors and all out 4P 1/8 motors.

Thanks for the wealth of knowledge Stealth! Very very insightful. Hope you won't mind if I ask more questions later.

So over all how would you compare driving the eryx vs the 747e? I've been going back and forth on these two for a while now, and am strongly considering going with the 747e. I have the 747 nitro as well, but I want to set the 747e to go faster (80+ mph). There's a nice makeshift track area around me where I have the space to really open it up. Do you think a 3s lipo set up would disturb the handling much?

With regards to a 3s setup vs 2s and the handling characteristics. I'd say if you run something like an rx8 with heavier 4p motor (or a 550) then it'll balance quite well with a 3s pack. I'm yet to try a 3s setup but I'm sure I will eventually. Perhaps the Orion r10 pro 2-3s esc may also be a good option.

If your looking for speed then the 3s setup would be a must. The ERYX and 747e are very different cars particularly in the way the cars rotate and generate forward bite. The 747e generally has more traction available and you can drive it much harder than the ERYX. I love them both but for very different reasons. Sadly I can only race the ERYX and so the 747e is just a 'toy' at the moment. Right now I am enjoying driving my 747e more than the ERYX.
