Default Motor Legality when stator is changed

I have a 21.5t Reedy motor If I change the stator to a 17.5t is the motor roar legal? It seams a little dodgy . Sorry if this is an ignorant question.

Thanks in advanced

Technically it would be a 'legal" motor (speed-wise) if you have a ver.1 17.5 stator in a ver.1 21.5 can or a ver.2 (mach 2 stator) in a mach 2 21.5 can but most likely it will not pass inspection at a sanctioned event purely because the can is printed with 21.5 versus 17.5.

If you change the stator the 21.5 to the 17.5. It now becomes a 17.5 motor. So it would not be roar legal in the 21.5 class.

And it can be confirmed by checking the resistance of the stator as well. So swapping stators is "legal" under pretty much all rules. I have seen stewpid things with USVTA not allowing the Orange novak ring which is plain silly since you can swap to a 25.5 stator.

A Orange novak ring (plastic ring) indicates a 13.5 stator, the aluminum ring makes no difference what colour it is.

Correct. You can actually order Ballistics (or could when they were made) with any color aluminum ring you wanted. My 25.5 has a black ring. The plastic at the base of the solder terminals determines the wind in stock turns. Yellow is 17.5 as I recall, green is 21.5? It has been a while.

If u plan to run it in a 17.5 class it will be legal
If u plan to run it in a 21.5 class it is not legal

Basically you just swapped out your 21.5 motor for a 17.5 motor while still using your old rotor.

Yes it would be legal but as a 17.5 motor not the 21.5 you'd be hoping for.

Hey guys thanks for the replies.

Haha I didn't explain myself properly. I don't want to cheat I want to enter a 17.5 class with changing my stator in my 21.5 motor. So the outside of the can will say 21.5 but the stator is actually a 17.5.

or you can just get one of these http://www.rcmart.com/speed-passion-...r-p-32347.html which is prob cheaper than a new stator.

I hate when people give bad advice! Buy local as much as you can and keep your local track open.

I would rather pay the 50 dollars and help keep a local hobby shop/track open. Maybe you don't have either because of too many people with your mindset.

ugh. things aren't as simple as that. just because something is the way it is in america doesn't make it so everywhere.

Im not here to argue about that with you. simply presenting an option to the op that's less a PITA than rebuilding a motor. where he buys it from is not important to me nor any of my business for that matter. or yours ;P

Im confused! Are you talking about the rotor? (The thingy inside the motor)? The ouside of motor is the stator!
