Yes, the Kyosho Mini Z stuff is expensive. And you have to use their transmitters, or a special KO module that costs almost as much.

Speaking of used, keep an eye out for an old ABC DTM 1/24 scale car. They look very similar to an Associated 12L, and use non-proprietary electronics. I'm using the Novak Spy ESC (they have a newer version now), an airplane micro servo, and Spektrum SR3500 receiver in mine.

Losi also has their micro trucks and rally cars that might be suitable for modification as onroad cars. I've never owned one, but the price looks right!

Is getting to Middle River Hobbies not an option? If you're in Baltimore, it shouldn't take you an hour to get there. You can run onroad all week every other week and the weeks when the jumps are down, you can run Wednesday-Saturday for practice.

Maybe you already know this, they race outdoors in that shopping center during the summer on Saturday's and indoor on Thursday nights and Saturdays in the fall and winter.

Only recently did I rescue my 1/24 scale cars from storage to run with a friend who installed a micro track in his basement. I've never been to any major micro races. But we did have a decent-sized group regularly racing the ABC DTMs many years ago at the Hobbytown in Lakewood, CO.

Most of my racing these days is done with the "normal" scales at the local carpet track. 1/10 and 1/12 pan cars, VTA, USGT, TC... I've got them all, and I'm ready for anything! I even started oval racing a few years ago so the track owner would have another guy to pass.
