Apex Discharger (Good/Bad)
Guys im looking into buying an equalizer is this Apex one any good?? Looks preety serious but still leaning towards getting the Rayspeed one

Input 7.2-8.4V DC, 6 Ceells 1200-3300mAh Ni-MH and Ni-Cd, discharge approximate 20A/cell.

Easier drag for 6 cell batteries connection.

Reverse polarity protected.
Built-in fan for cooling.

I guess, it's a question of believe: Do you want to let your cells go all the way down to zero or not?
Because there's no auto cut off (at least not according to the specs). If you want to know for sure, you can write to Apex, they have quite good support.
The discharger is basically the same as Indy Octane 2 / Trinity RealTime 2. But personally, I dont like the connector screws on the RealTime. I havent tried the Apex, but it seems to be much easier to use.
The only bad thing about the Rayspeed, is that it's limited to 5 amps. But in conjunction with an Integy Reactor 20 or 30.... That would be a real nice combo.
I'm using the Robitronic equalizer with 1 amp discharge and 0,9 volt cut off. I'll get the Reactor 20 soon.

I know what you mean that its only limited to 5amps but my charger has a discharge mode in it also so i guess its alright. Will see

I have one of the apex dischargers - and like Cole says, if you want the cells down to zero (which I do - I'm deadshorting) it's just fine.
The only issue I have with it is the cooling fan has an optional power input - but it takes 7.2 volts (a battery pack) rather than 12 volts from a power supply.
The fan runs off the cells until they hit about 5 volts at which point it stops, and the cells heat up fairly badly.
Apart form that it's just dandy. And half the price of the alternatives (indy octane 2 etc). 20 amp discharge.

I was told if you zero discharge your should recharge within a very short period of time if your discharging for storage then you should give a 1/3rd charge to the cells so they dont reverse charge and stuff up
as im new to all this I was wondering if that is the case or is a equalise of the cells down to zero a good thing and something not to be to woried about doing
or should you avoid it like the plague if you use Ni-Mh

I used the discharger on my old packs, the mAh capacity is better and packs feel more punchy.
On my new packs, I used the Novak smart tray to discharge to 0.9v each.
I think I would not used it on my good cells, needs pampering for a while first.
