Do any of you have any gearing recommendations for any of these winds? How about timing?

I'm wondering the same thing. I geared my 17.5 blinky at 3.8 for now and keeping timing at 30 degrees (which is stock). I run on a small/medium technical carpet track. I'll get a chance to practice tomorrow and see about gearing.

Just tested it out today. Geared at 3.8 at the stock timing, the motor is incredibly smooth. I greatly prefer to the Revtech with HT and the D3.5 with HT that I've compared it to.

The crazy thing is that the manual states that the motor is designed to run up to 212f! I was hitting 150f earlier today but I noticed that I never once had that "burnt electronics" smell that motors get when they hit that high temp.

Anyone know if rotor fans were used by top driver ?

How many degres gap between fan or not ?

Just got confirmation from HWNA that these motors are rated to run up to 212f. I'm gonna keep getting bigger pinions!

Yes very much so but this was direct from them.

Geared at 3.8 at 30degree timing on a small/medium sized technical carpet track, my motor was getting to about 150f after 7-8 minutes. Incredibly smooth motors. I'm gonna do more testing tomorrow to see what the ideal gearing would be. I put it at 4.1 earlier today and jacked the motor timing up to 42degrees to see if it has a bit more torque.

All hobbywing motors work with the data logger temp rec abd overheat protection.

You say you prefer the motor to the revtech and D3.5, are you saying this because its not as torquey and more smooth? Does it still have punch in the infield? I guess I'm asking you to explain the difference, as I'm interested in the motor and these are two other motors I'm considering.

bought this motor to try it out, but noticed that the new efra rule stating that the length of the stator should be measurable upon dis assembly cannot be performed on this motor.

also confirmed with Ron Schuur (roar technical director) that this rule currently applies to new motors being submitted although not yet published on the current rule book. New Rule book coming soon.

I ended up returning the motor for a refund.

Im sure there's a way to get this passed to Roar or efra. based on the information I got the current design "possibly" will not pass both efra & roar.

Instead of making rules up as they go without informing the manufacturers should they not first publish new rules with a time frame when they are going to be in effect?

I suppose that is the d3.5 rule... I knew a new rule book was coming hence the reason the d3.5 will be killed off.
I wanted the new hobbywing motor, their speedos are awesome and I was hoping the same outta these new motors. Roar changes their mind on rules like my old lady does with clothes....

If I could, I'd like this comment.....

I"m tired of this mess. I wouldn't have known that and have seriously considered this motor.... Now I guess I have to rethink it. It's really not hard to update something online instantaneously. Someone at ROAR has to have access to the internet more often than once every couple years, so we can actually see updates to rules when we are selecting equipment
