Stock racing makes up, what, 90% of on-road club racing? I get that it doesn't have the star factor and the glamour of mod, whatever that's worth, but when it comes down to making smart choices about your equipment, buying everything the top guys run is rarely the right decision for the kinds of people that are actually out there racing as their hobby.
I would be very interested to see someone like Rick, Paul, Volker, Etc. "step down" to a "Stock" race and see how everyone does now a days. Do you really think they would be lapping the field against someone like Brad Johnson or someone who has won pretty much everything stock.

I have found a race report of the Asian On Road Championships Rd 1. Where Ronald Völker was running the 13.5 SuperStock class, which he won.

More often than not they would win easily. See Hara at IIC in boosted 17.5. The racing would be closer than if the stock guys tried to run mod, but those guys are very, very good.

Times are closer with less power on tap

wow.. 98% consistant is the pretty damning number lol. but a surprise that 80% still makes the amain at a big event. maybe im not as far away from those races as i thought ha.

making the fast guys slower doesnt really bring things closer. fast guys will always be faster than the rest. but maybe pros should have their own class. let the rest of us have a chance to win something.

Make the PROS race in an S rank class with the next fastest being the A ect.

And dilute the Mod fields more? Super stock is there already for what you're on about.

The "Rest" do have a chance at "winning" something
Top Pro's don't normally gravitate towards the slower classes such as, VTA, Mini, F1 etc

Funny, if 1 or 2 drivers from yokomo and HB had turned up people would would be talking about how great the event was and how strong onroad in the US is

I think Marc's comments have been taken out of context, most of the criticisms I heard were directed at the manufacturers that didn't support the event, and not at the event itself.

I'll hopefully make it back next year, and I'm willing to bet with the WC in the US later in the year that it's going to be a big race!

The rest have ALWAYS had a chance at winning something. In the old days it was the B, C, D etc. mains. Now it's VTA, Mini, USGT, F1, 17.5 TC, 13.5 TC, Spec Slash, the list goes on and on.

Anybody else remember big race turnouts with over 300 entries that equated to 300 people, rather than the 300 entries and 110 guys we see today? You ran stock OR mod, and you were proud to have won the c-main in your class.

Oh, and when I was a kid I had to walk barefoot, in the snow, 5 miles uphill, to and from school.

The last time I raced 13.5 TC I TQed and won the Nats against some very fast locals plus Hebert and Ty Tessmann. Cyrul won the Carpet Nats in 13.5 this year.

When you drop the fast guys down a level, they will not have as big an advantage, Put the top 10 NASCAR drivers in Street Stocks at the local speedway and I would not expect them to sweep the top 10. But allow them to run it for a while, chances are they will .

Yeah and remember when it was a pretty universal goal to move up to mod, and when factories didn't sponsor stock only drivers?

Remember when six cell batteries barely held 7.0 V for a minute? When the Euros started running 5 cell to slow the cars down? When the Reedy race tried to limit the cars to 10 turns in mod?

The fact is cars are now running the equivalent of 7 cell voltage with basically unlimited run time and more motor than ever. In 1/12, it's lower voltage, but unlimited run time.

The point? The reason all these other classes are popular is that there are a lot more people who can control the cars. You're not going to get 150 guys in mod when it's not even fun to drive the car if your not 20 years old with video game reflexes.

Even more to the point, this is not going to change back to what it was. Ever. Period.

I also notice that back in the day they didn't have any problems running 1/12 on asphalt..
