Does anyone have an answer to this...

What's more important to keep an extra fan on? The ESC or the Motor? Other then the stock fan on top of the ESC what would be more valuable to keeping the temp down...
i keep the extra fan on the esc.

not with the pro 4, I ran it with a 100/26 also for a 9.38 fdr with no thermal issues

we was running 8.8 overall at weekend at snetterton in uk. which is a very fast and power draining track. i running more like 7.8 and was lasting 4.5 mins then i asked about as you do and found out that running it lower didnt slow the car down at all. top end was better and acceleration was just silly. also last 5 mins peice of piss. was also lot smoother to drive. double cool can on the motor is needed as kept getting thermo cut out but hey learn from ya mistakes. also running the min drive at 3 not 2 makes it better to drive aswell.

I ran a 9.4 at on the 4.5 at the Reedy Race. I mounted a 30mm fan facing the solder joints to keep the wires from overheating and developing resistance, and I used the Muchmore motor cooler to help keep the temps down.
Novak also used the Muchmore motor coolers some to help keep the prototype 3.5's from getting too hot shutting down.

Charlie from Novak recommends that the motor not exceed the 160 deg F range to prevent damage to the rotor.

If your motor comes off the track at 160 deg at the end of a 5 minute race, it can come off much hotter at the end of a practice if you continue run until you dump...so my best advice is to not practice longer than 5 minutes if you run an aggressive gearing setup.

here is my 4.5 mounted. i replaced the wirring with blue (because i'm an idiot that likes everything blue! ) and shortened the wires to the reciever with the hitec part number PN 54801S. i also braided the sensor wires (is this a good thing? or will it cause problems?) and shrink wraped the sensor wires.

hopefully i don't have heaps of resistance with my soldering. i might mount the fan over the wires if this is the case.

Thanks.

Sure, here is a pic of the setup I used. I use Muchmore 30mm fans because they push LOTS of air. The fan on top of the motor is the newest version that now has a plastic clip by the bearing to hold the blades in; the "glue" mod that I posted earlier is no longer neccessary with this fan.
The heatsink has a 3mm hole tapped into it to screw the secondary fan in. I am going to rewire the secondary fan with a small plug and maybe a switch later on...I soldered it in quickly while at the Reedy.

MR-30FAN is the # for the 30mm fan. All the fans shipped are now the newer version, same part #.
