hi all,

i;ve recently bought the GTB 5.5. as i can say now from my own experience this thing is HOT. raced against 1:5 scales and just left them on the straight a bunch o feet behind!! geared at 6.21 it drains my(quite old) 3700 batteries from GM in about 3,5 to 4 minutes ^^ uhh, this thing really Rocks... Track is Huge so don't look weird with the 6.21 power is Insane. haven't had the thermals yet but i guess i will when I buy some good IB4200's from DCMotorSports...
for now i'd like so discus another thing actually.

i'm having ALOT of interference with this set.
here's what I got:
T3PK with batts on about 10 to 11 volts..
HRS receiver wrapped in aluminium tape
GTB 5,5
Coreless speed servo from futaba
in a xray T2

mounted the elecs on one side as low as possible to the ground it all fits perfectly. but when i drive around and apply throttle and just only then! the HRS receiver gets into his Failsafe mode! this only occurs when the car is about 10 to 15 meters away from me. so, within a radius of 15 meters i can just drive arround with nothing and when getting further away it just poppes into failsafe.
here's the fun part, there;s nothing wrong with the receiver whatsoever. when I put the car on 50 meters (doing nothing with my ( quite heavy) left index-finger) it just responds nice as it should but then i apply throttle it gets into failsafe, motor stops ( set it to 50% brake on failsafe) and after a second it poppes out of failsafe and repeats above...

i tried a lot of things to stop this
aluminium wrapping
putting the receiver on top of the servo ( helped allot resulting in a extra 10 meters without the problem occurring)
making the motor wires and other wires as short as possible.
twisting the 3 phase wires around each other
mounting the side with the wires as far as possible away from the receiver
tried a set of new cristals with no result

still I'm getting some problems with the car having actually quite alot of interference when getting more than about 20 meters away with is quite dangerous on a big track on the straight full throttle...

I have no clue and do not know what to do with this.
Need help!

Many thanks
Mark

your coreless servo is Digital right? I know that the hrs doesn't work with non-digital servos.

Does the GTB have any adjustability equivalent to drive frequency and brake frequency? On the website, it says it has adjustable Minimum Brake, Drag Brake, Deadband and Minimum drive. It also says it has 3 forward brake profiles. Is it that these profiles have different throttle/brake frequency like parameters and then you adjust the Minimum Brake, Drag Brake, Deadband and Minimum drive to go along with them?

edit: I just looked at the manual, it seems like these four parameters are adjstable for each profile, so what is the difference between the profiles then?

yes, the servo is digita,

about spektrum, this thing Does interfere if you place the phasewires next to the spektrumreciever like in a T2, but if you rotate the GTB unit 180 degrees so that the phasewires sit next to the motor there is no issue. friend of mine had this exactly and when rotating the ESC he had far less interference.
one thing, im not going to buy a skeptrum knowing that lost of people have no problems whatsoever with normal 40mhz FM recievers in their cars combined with the GTB...
it Should just work fine
but reality is different...

Sorry, but generally to find the right gearing you need a little more specifics. Such as what size is the track mainly. But even on the same size track the gearing will change depending on the layout. But if you had read your instruction manual it would have given you the answer much quicker . Novak recommends starting gearing the 5.5 in a xxx-4 with a 15-16t pinion 48p. Hope this helps.

I have been running a 6.5 with the orion platinum in my bj4 for about a month. It thermaled one time, and it took about 15 minutes to do it. I have a final drive of about 10.5:1. For me it is insane fast, and it is only the 6.5!

Well I finally got my 5.5 installed tonight, but have a quick question.

When I run the motor at low throttle percentages, the motor to me sounds 'rough'. However when I get to higher percentages it gets quieter and smoother. I'm just wondering if this is normal?

Cheers
Ben

Just a note of caution for everyone using the GTB brushless systems; DON'T solder a servo FET wire to any of the + (plus) leads on the system. It makes everything glitch like crazy.

Most likely that's because of worn out gears or poor gear mesh, probably too loose. Did it sound rough when it was spinning free?

Sorry, forgot to mention that the noise was when the motor was running freely. (the pinion wasn't meshed with the spur).
