Default GTB ???

BRUSHLESS ????

1. What makes the 6.5R better for off-road racing compared to the 5.5R.

Has any body out there had both products?

Also I don't know why Novak will not sell the GTB Speedo with the 5800 motor as a package.

There are a lot of guys running the 5800 in off-road mod. Truck.

2. Does the GTB have a smoother throttle curve over the Super Sport?

3. I have been told to buy the fastest brushless system because you can always tone it down on the M8 or on the Speedo is this true?

Thanks............

1. The 6.5 will have less power than the 5.5 and thus will more than likely be easier for you to control in most offroad applications where traction is limited.

2. Most people have reported that they like the power band of the 6.5 and 5.5 T motors more than that of the 5800. The GTB also has more drive profile adjustability than the original Super Sport ESC.

3. You can always turn the End points on your radio down in an effort to slow the overall speed of the motor down, but if you need a more mild power band there is still no easier way of fixing the problem then going to a slower motor.

Ive owned both the ss 5800 and the 5.5r. Only reason i can see for buying the 6.5 over the 5.5 is the 6.5 should be a little more 'tame' for offroad use. anyone good at using the slipper clutch/radio trim/throttle control will be fine using the 5.5. The GTB is definately smoother on the throttle. could hardly tell the difference between driving a 5.5 or a brushed mod on carpet TC. Id guess novak wont release the 5800 and GTB as a combo as the 5800 is an outdated motor, and i believe u can purchase the 5800 motor seperately for rather cheap price.

Yes you can de-tune any system, if you have a radio which you can adjust end points. And i 'think' the GTB can be programmed as you suggest also. Dont quote me on that tho. Ive never needed to de-tune my 5.5

Personally, i've found the GTB esc to be much smoother than the ss5800. Especially on low throttle which is where some ppl complain of cogging.
Smoothness is subjective, but having owned both systems the GTB is noticeably smoother.

Note that the brushless motors and esc's are much smoother and more linear than any brushed motor anyway. Also, depending on what you run, the ss+ and GTB in particular have adjustable drag brake.

Drag brake imitates a brushed motor's deceleration off throttle, where brushless motors in comparison seem to coast forever. Very useful if your vehicle doesn't turn in(tune in more drag brake) or gets loose off throttle (tune is less drag brake).

Let me just say, that i've never really felt any cogging with either motor, and never suffered any problems with the stator not moving etc...

The higher wind motors are easier to control than the lower 6.5r and 5.5r velocity series. In offroad, depending on what kind of track you run, having an excess of power is not an advantage is your car can't get it to the ground without spinning up the tires.

As for tuning down the power... haven't ever tried it myself. But you can always play around with throttle exponentials to get the required feel..

Just ordered the GTB 5.5 system. It's going in my Pro-4, and should be a good race setup. It was a great platform for 19T spec, I expect it tp be awsome with all the extra power. I'll be sure and report it's performance. This will be the 1st time our club runs an open mod class. So we'll see how well the GTB system stands up against a bunch of brushed mod competition...

You'll find it very competitve against brushed motors and the lack of maintenance makes for a more enjoyable race day.

Our race meeting was called off so still don't know how my GTB compares to the brushed motors being run at our track. I will also have a 3PK and a spektrum reciever and module for next meeting so I won't have any glitching I hope.
Drew.

I got the 3PK and Spektrum today and it fixed the gliching and I won't have to worry about the car running off because someone left there radio on. I'll tell you how my novak goes in two weeks.

Hmmm..... Let me know how the spektrum kit goes too. Had a strange day at the track today. Lots of random glitches, very small but hardly confidence insipiring. Very unusual..

Time to tear the car down and have a closer look..

My GTB 5.5 system came early, kudos to Tower for a prompt response. I should have the new drive system installed in a few days, and the track should be rebuilt and race ready soon. All I'll have to compare to is 19T, but there's sure to be plenty of nitro victims, I mean competition to play with and test against...
