Now if only ROAR would allow brushless in some of the lower classes so us beginners could enjoy the power and reduced maintenance. I'm very jealous.

Here are some pics of the GTB in my JRXS . I have not really decided on exactly how I am going to have the wiring, but this will do for the time being.

I currently run a pro 4, I am a pretty decent driver I have made b final nationals at modified meetings before on a regular basis and have ran the pro4 for 2 years and it is the best car I have ever driven and am looking for a new car for next season and am looking between the yok bd and hotbodies cyclone, I like the strength and quality of parts better from hpi/hotbodies than yokomo but there is alot of people running yokomo bd's in the uk and my club thus making setups easier to come by. I am going to run my dads yokomo bd this weekend at the modified national. I was just wondering if anybody has made the switch from the pro4 and found that the cyclone be even better.

Just went out to my local track today and did some basic testing of the GTB and 5.5. The results so far are:

* good top speed (very comaparable to my Trinity Cobalt 8x1)
* very linear in acceleration (no cogging or stuttering whatsoever)
* drag brakes are excellent and resemble a "brushed" motor feel
* highly tunable (dead band, min drive, min brake and drag brake)
* ease of operation (one touch button on switch)

Didn't play around with gearing at all (I just wanted to test the system out and see what it was really like). However, using the manual suggested ratio for TC, the ESC only just became warm (ambient temp = 28'C) and the motor temp was around 55'C (after 7mins of testing using ib3800). Could have gone up a fair bit I think.

I will do some more testing later this week and race with the system on Sunday.

Leonard.

Thumbs up Nice Pics

I own both the 05' Xray and the JRXS. Both of those pics tell me alot about this thing.

As previously stated, I think this system is very competitive with good brushed motors. It looks like they got the packaging in the correct layout and in a small enough package to make it paletable.

I ordered mine yesterday.

with the 5.5 in my stadium truck i went to my local track (socal raceway) and there i peaked my batts and blipped the throttle to check repsonse,, and offroading i went... on the straights this thin will make th truck wheelie,, and taking any jump from short distance is no problem,,

i had to switch front tires in order to stay on the track went from using proline blades to using proline holeshots ( i also have a slow servo which i will be changing soon,, 645mg to a 925mg)

very linear power,, i have yet to open it up on the straight away,, as soon as i WOT i have to release throttle and make my turns... but it is incredible,,

had someone that races at the track , drive my truck and he loiked the speed,, said it was stupid fast..

i havent been able to race anyone except for a 17t motor which belong to another racer,, while on the straights i would leave him,, but in-field he had me ,, thanks to my slow servo.. .20sec compared to .08sec

I LOVE THIS MOTOR SYSTEM..... might buy a 5300 so i can race in a slower class.. i dont think my skills are good enough for true mod class...

What is DEAD BAND?
Dead Band is the space between Minimum Brake and Minimum Drive, with Neutral located at the center of this space. This value is usually given as as a percentage, most Novak ESCs are set to a 5% default dead band value.

What is MINIMUM DRIVE?
Minimum Drive is the amount of drive applied with the first pulse of transmitter throttle information. This value is usually given in a percentage ranging anywhere between 1% and 12% of full throttle. The higher this value the less smooth the initial amount of throttle will be. For modified motors or lower traction conditions, a lower minimum drive value is best. For stock, 19 turn motors, or high traction conditions, a higher minimum drive value can be used. Most default settings are 3%.

OK, this has probably been covered in this thread, and I did read the entire thread a week or so ago to get caught up, but I don't remember the answer to this if it is there....

What is the older ESC called? SuperSport and SuperSport +? Is that correct?

In a nutshell, what is the difference in the Novak SuperSport ESC, Supersport+ ESC and the GTB ESC? ESCs only...

The GTB is about 30% smaller than the Supersport and has much better power handling capabilities. You can't run any motor hotter than the 5800 on the Supersport speed control (8.5 turn brushless) the GTB can go way lower and has a lower brushed motor limit too.
