Hi, my problem has been resolved with tower.

As i live in australia, sending the motor back and forth turn-around time would of been weeks.

I sent a pic of the new motor and invoice to tower and

I requested the updated rotor (5908) and updated ribb can (5919) from tower hobbies. Though this wont be 100% the upgraded motor (as it will be missing the Ribb peice at the rear of the can), i will be satisfied with that.

Had my GTB go up in flames yesterday in my ZX5. Car was running fine, sitting on the start line waiting for the tone. Looked like a BIG smoke bomb.

I know the GTB is toast, but is there a way to check the motor for damage? Either way, I'll be sending the GTB back into Novak for the upgraded GTB when the cost is determined.

Here is the chart that lists prices for the GTB "different version" exchange program.

The new program also allows exchanging an existing Novak BL motor for any other series motor. (Vel, SS Pro, HV, 4300, etc.)

I wish I knew. Ran a 5 minutes practice, and things were fine. Sitting on the line to start the 1st qualifier and she let go.

Something in the GTB / Motor definitely shorted. The Positive battery wire got hot enough to unsolder itself, so it was drawing a good amount of current. Based on the condition of the GTB, failure analysis will be "Electrical Overstress" (standard answer from our component engineering guys at work ).

I chalk it up to "stuff happens", and will send it back w\ my $90 to get the newer GTB w\ lipo cutoff and sintered 5.5 motor to replace it.

with the zx5, the body toughes the motor tab wires when installed. so you really need to make 110% sure your tabs are soldered good. otherwise with all the vibrations with the body and motor tabs, a short could occur pretty easily

I had the motor rotated so the tabs were pointed twards the side of the body to avoid contact. Not sure how the body rubbing the tab would cause a short though since plastic is non-conductive.
