The ESC has temperture protection, AND the motor has temp protection. The Blue Sensor Wire only disables the Motor Protection. The ESC protection CANNOT be disabled.

If the blue wire is motor protection what is the black wire? The black wire has come out of the harness on my motor, the one that attaches to the GTB and the little copper holder is no longer there. Charlie is going to send me another copper pin and a plastic harness so I can try and fix it but just curious to know what the wire is for as I cannot run my ss5800 at the moment and want to get back to practicing with it for 19T next year.

Right this is my point...

If the motor was geared too high, as in big spur, little pinion. Its the very high RPM that is creating the heat. Correct??

Turning the Hi point on my radio ONLY adjusts the highest point the transmitter will go. It alters nothing on the car. So all its doing as applying half throttle.... And the motor IS going slower with less RPM.

So i fully appreciated your help with this issue but i just cant see how it works :S. Please explain. lol

The black wire is the ground wire or negative wire. The red wire is plus 5.0 volts and the orange white and green wires are the A,B, and C phases. If you want more info on the basic specs for brushless go to the ROAR website at Roar Racing.org.

Default Brushless to brushed

Does anyone have a chart the shows brushless motors and what the approx equivalent is for brushed motors? I know that the 13.5 for instance is close to stock.

See, we're talking about different gear ratios.

Using To Small of a pinion and lower the end point, would simply make it slower, and run cooler.

When I say "over gear" I mean using to large of a pinion. SOrry for the confusion.

SS13.5 = Racing 27 Turn
SS4300 (10.5) = Similar to a 19 turn
SS5800 (8.5) = Between 17-14 turn
7.5R = About 12 turn
6.5R = About 11-10 turn
5.5R = About 10-9 turn
4.5R = About an 8 turn
3.5R = Better then most 7 turns.

How come on the package of the SS4300 and in the paperwork it says like a 27 turn stock motor?

Bob, long time fan here. I have a question for you regarding the Novak Brushless. I am quite curious as to why Novak chose to use a wye wind motor rather than delta wind? Also I am very curious why you went with sensored technology when other companies who have been into brushless for longer have gone sensorless? ( I imagine that question has probably been asked many times before).
I have the GTB 3.5 as well as a 5.5 and I am very happy with the performance but my only complaint is the sensor lead from the motor. I wish the plug was also on the motor as it is on the esc so the option for long, medium and shorter sensor leads can be utilized.
Are there plans for sensorless in the future?

Question for Charlie or Bob @ Novak:

Do you have a recommended gear ratio for velociti motors using the sintered rotor? I have purchased the sintered rotor to put it on the 5.5R, but I'm a little concerned about how the recommended ratio range will vary with it (not only for the 5.5 but also the 4.5 and the SS5800)... it would be really nice to have a table with them on your web.... thanks a lot!!

The SS4300 was originally thought to be comparable as it runs at around the same RPM on 7.2 volts (30000) as a brushed stocker. The only problem is the torque, efficiency and outright power is just way higher. Hence the SS13.5

Ive been running a 8.4 fdr with the the sintered rotor with no problems and its plenty fast!! usually with the sintered rotor you can go up a few teeth just keep an eye on the temps

Default "Stuttering"

I sold a SupuerSport 5800 to my brother about a month ago and now he's complaining that it "stutters." When he tries to accelerate, it doesn't do it in a linear or smooth fashion. I tried it out at the track the other night and the only thing I can compare it to is if you've got someone learning how to drive stick the first time and they miss shift. He says it started last week and at first he thought it was the battery pack but after several packs, the problem persisted.

I touched the heatsink on his esc and that thing was BURNING hot. Way hotter than the heatsink on my SS5800 and we're both geared almost the same. He's got a 71/23 and I've got a 72/22. We both have a Yokomo SSG.

Any clues? Is his SuperSport about to fry? Does it need a new capacitor? I thought there was a sensor in these things to keep them from overheating? Thanks for the help.
