The system in UK now has 2 finals, and if you have a draw - easily done as we saw in the very first round between Chris Grainger and Glen Doman who both had a win and a second, then the decider is TQ.

OK so everybody knows about it, but what if the guy that was 2nd on the grid won a much faster final, as was in fact the case. I would never have gone for TQ as a decider, but for the fastest race, which would be a better reflection that the fastest man won, especially when both races were also much faster than TQ. I am giving this as an example. Both happen to be friends of mine and I would have been equally glad whichever one of them won.

Which brings us back to our original discussion - what is best !
I was at that meeting, I cannot comment on the speed of Glenn and Chris as I was marshalling the final.
All I can say is that the track got faster all day, probably due to the English not Maltese weather we had on Saturday.

Glenn did what he had to do by the rules, as did Craig this weekend.

Well done to all of them for these performances, which are truly stunning

Here's a different take on the results. I do not submit this as the end all analysis to the conversation as to which car is best. However, if you add up the finishing position for each chassis, then divide it by the total number of drivers running that chassis, you get the average finishing position for that chassis:

Chassis - total points - # of drivers - AVERAGE FINISHING POSITION
HB Cyclone 16 3 5.33
Tamiya 415 115 11 10.45
Schumacher Mi2 11 1 11.00
XRAY T1FK05 59 4 14.75
Losi JRXS 52 3 17.33
Yokomo BD 54 3 18.00
Corally RDX 18 1 18.00
Associated TC4 197 9 21.89
Kyosho Proto 63 2 31.50

Remember the line about the different kinds of lies, now. You can make statistics say anything you want. Still, this kind of analysis should emphasize more the average performance of the car and/or TEAM of drivers, and less the performance of any one driver. Obviously if there's only a few drivers for any one chassis, the ranking should be considered less significant. The opposite is true if there are more drivers for any one chassis.

I might be over-analyzing, but, hey, it's my day off.

Also - I may have the number of drivers for each chassis wrong!

All of the modified and spec main results are posted at http://www.liverc.com.
It's not intuitive though... look under "Round 5", every modified and spec result listed there is a main.

Little Zen - fantastic pics - you must have been really close to the action to get some of those congrats and thanks for sharing them.

As to the discussions around formats, rules, who won etc..... here are my personal thoughts.

The Reedy Race has been going for some time now (thanks to the Maestro himself) and the guys invited to race are not newcomers to the sport - in fact quite the opposite!
For some of these guys they have probably been invited to the last 2, 3 or even more Reedy Races.
So......... the rules for these guys are quite clear!
The Reedy Race was developed to be something different, racing against all other invited drivers at some time or other throughout the competition. Something that no other Race provides!
The only people I see passing comments are those who were not one of the invited drivers.
So Rules are Rules guys - just look back (and if you were lucky to be there) think yourselves lucky to see the action at 1st hand and not over the net thousands of miles away.
All I can say is Congrats to all drivers for making this a spectacle for our Sport and - roll on the DVD Futureal

The 2005 Reedy Race was THE best event I have ever attended and participated in (including other national and world level events). EVERY aspect of this race sets a STANDARD for the R/C racing world; facility, organization, preparation, promotion, attendance, excitement, prestige, etc.

Thanks to Mike Reedy for creating and promoting such a unique racing format. Thanks to all the invitational drivers for providing some amazing racing. Thanks to Scotty Ernst, Doug Hay and the rest of the crew for conducting a PROFESSIONAL event! Everyone in tech was patient, friendly and helpful all week long. Tamiya is a beautiful facility and I hope they will continue to host the Reedy Race in years to come.
