Mopar, what's your current black carpet setup for touring?

I'm interested in possibly trying this car again.

Signed up for the wrong class, VTA only got 7 entries, top 3 were out of my league, was around 0.5 slower, had a race for 4th but ended up in 5th, car was easy to drive but was having a hard time keeping it consistently in the grove, overshooting corners on a technical track like this added lots of time, my fast lap was 12.288 but average 15 was 13.023, that's a lot of lost time

Should have signed up for 21.5 but didn't want to spend the extra $60

Hey Mopar, got a question for you.. What did you do to drill the caps and what is the benefit of it if you don't mind explaining? I'm assuming it's for zero rebound.

yep zero rebound, makes the shocks more consistent, just drill a small hole in the cap.

According to some testing on the off-road forum, drilling that hole encourges the diaphram to collapse. While it does flatten the shocks spring curve, it seems to have some adverse effects on actual shock performance.

cant compare off road shocks with tc shocks, oil volume displacment is a lot smaller in tc.

I think you can. But the amount of science done on these things is really pretty minimal. I wonder if we can get that college kid to try running different shocks on his dyno. :-) I expect, you'll see the same throughout.

I'll also note, that in the 90's pressurized shocks were "a thing" And getting full rebound was a design consideration.

... I wonder when we're gonna see "advanced" shock absorbers on r/c cars. The time has come...

Maybe somebody should try to mimic Cadillac's Magnetorheological dampers for rc.

in the 90's we also used 80wt oil and 30lb springs on our foam tc's

Team Associated's top drivers also run 1mm holes in the caps and this is clear on the set-up sheets. With how involved those guys are if the hole didn't provide an advantage, guys like Rick Howart wouldn't be doing it.
