Default Good But Cheap Motor & ESC Combo?

I'm thinking about getting this battery (since it's ROAR Approved)...

...and was wondering on a good Motor & ESC combo for my Sakura Zero S? I want to go cheap to start. I was looking at this...

Motor

ESC

This or the EZRun Brushless combo...

I like sensored systems in a sedan and you may want to look at the Cirtix combos from Speedpassion. Another great blinky ESC is the Hobbywing Justock. Not sure if they sell it in a combo.

The Battery is fine but that motor and esc are not for racing. What class are you doing to race in? If you are semi serious this is the minimum I would use.
It is $110 and it is closer to what you need. If this is your first car I suggest the 17.5 combo. That HKesc motor cost less but you would be wasting your money IMHO!

Thumbs up THINk

It's just my two cents, why buy a Tekin redline for some 200.oo when unless you run mod you will not be useing all the features.Unless you only run mod just pay less.

What classes are you running? That's gonna determine what motor you buy.

I'd recommend the Turnigy Trackstar motors. $30 on Hobbyking and perform every bit as well as $90 motors.

I also like Hobbywing escs a lot. Easy to program and have a great feel.

Thanks, I'll check those out. What is "blinky" I've read about this several times on here I think?

Appreciate that link. I'm new but I want to run Brushless, so maybe GT2 class? So the 10.5T combo won't work I'm assuming? If everyone is running 17.5 brushless in the GT2 class, what is my best investment to be competitive, battery?

I love your body/shell in your pic btw! Is that the Tamiya CLK 190mm? I just bought this one (my dog's waiting for me to start building my car - lol)...

Blinky is non boosted and the timing is fixed at 0* but if you need a 17.5 setup this esc is ROAR aproved esc for blinky mode. My body shell is analog paint from China it probally is a Tamiya knock off of a CLK and it is 190mm it actually works good.
I run this same esc (Reventon club stock) with a turnigy 21.5 in GT3 and it is very competive and I also run Hobby wing just stock in my 17.5 car and they both are great esc. I have a LRP sxx v2 abd it is in my box I would rather run the SP or HW esc's!

I run in 10.5T blinky class at club level, using these

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s..._10_1_12_.html

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...150A_ESC_.html

Most of those are on backorder, so if you are not in a hurry just wait till stock arrives,

I have also run these in both 10.5T and 13.5T combinations:

As far as bang for buck goes, that about covers it all other than the Speedpassion combos, but with the amount of people complaining about them not working right, i would give those a miss for now.

SP Reventon club stock is not the esc that is having a problem it is the Reventon Pro different esc many of us here have been running SP for a while with no problems with the esc!
I do like HW esc I have run Trackstar motors and they work well.

If you're running a stock class, and don't really plan on moving to mod for the foreseeable future, then this is the ESC you need to purchase if you're on a budget.

http://www.falconsekido.com/products...c-esc-for-1-10

Paired with this motor, it'll be just as fast as any other $250+ setup out there.

Seriously, these Turnigy motors are fantastic. I much prefer it to the Revtech 17.5 that I was running before, and the Revtech is still pretty much one of the best 17.5 motors on the market.

You definitely can't go wrong with a $50 hobbywing if I knew they had them for this price I would've bought 2 a long time ago... Buying 2 as soon as I'm done with this post LOL

+1 For both of the quoted products

For a few $ more you could get the Xtreme Stock esc which still has the small foot print size as the Justock, but will allow you to program it with boost & turbo functions if you decide to try them later on.

http://www.falconsekido.com/products...k-esc-for-1-10

And the Trackstar motors are great value for your $$, at $30US they're even better than the cheap sensorless POS motors that are sold on Ebay for more.

Cheers
Rob.

Wow.. Newbie season

Advise to those new to racing: Please do not forget to have fun! Worry about speed later, practice your driving and master car setup before everything else!

Can the Hobbywing ESC be adjusted for reverse and brake? I know I can't race with reverse but I want reverse as an option if I'm running my car in front of my house and want to know if this can easily be adjusted on the ESC itself or on my radio?
