The alloy mount is a good upgrade but not required. I have 3 of these kits and still race them competitively against newer cars and it does surprisingly well. The V2 comes with both standard and hard plastics so you can either have spares or use them as a tuning aid. I plan to make a short shock conversion soon and that should solve one of the only issues I have left with the car. The steering arms and ball cups can be dealt with easily.
It's the V1 kits, what parts do I need to get to upgrade the kit to version 2?

All of the plastic has been upgraded to the new stiffer formula in the V2. Durango upgraded a few other components as well. They just stuffed a bag of the new parts inside and put a V2 sticker on the box so you get all the original stuff plus the new parts in the same kit. One hell of a deal if you ask me. The V1 is still a nice kit for the money but it would cost another $100 to upgrade it to a V2... if you could even find the parts. That's why I say "if it's a V2, buy them".
