What i have noticed is that generally half wind motors are not as smooth as the full winds. The reedy sonic is about as smooth as you can get. The half turn x12 (6.5 ect) are not smooth at all and hard to drive. The x20 has corrected this issue.

I here the Octa's are smoother than the standard x12 motors but a 4.5 x12 is alot of power and would be pretty punchy x12 octa or not. Ive been running a x12 6.5 lrp and its like an on off switch way to much power in the lower rpm range it is very fast and keeps up with the 5.0t motors or better down the back stretch. But it is hard to drive so consistant lap times are rare to get. To give you an idea it was spining all 4 tires out of the corner with the punch/feel all the way down, mild timing, -15 expo in the radio and slowly rolling onto the throttle. X12s are too agressive for me and you really can't take the punch out. So I now have an x20 5.0t in the car and may pickup a Reedy 5.0 for technical tracks. If you can manage the punch of the 4.5 octa with gearing and timing it is a beast of a motor and can take alot more abuse than other motor designs.

Thinking about a Mach 2 . I have a older Orion 5.5 and it's just not fast enough. Should I get a Mach 2 4.0 or the 4.5?

Yes the 5.0 motors seem to be a bit smoother especially the reedy 5.0 motors.

question: for beginner mod driver, it is better run the 5.0 reedy over the LRP 4.5 octa?
The 5.0 reedy is just smoother on the bottom end power or it is over all motor power it seft?

The Reedy 5.0 would be a better motor to learn to drive mod. Alot smoother powerband down low and is fast enough to be competitive up top. I get beat by a reedy 5.0 every week.lol The 4.5 octa would be faster down the back strech but would be alot less forgiving out of the corners.

Onroad question
Does batteries matter in mod if you have a middle of row pack?
