Default Stratus 3.0 Carpet vs. All-Purpose

Hi everyone. I have a bit of a dillemma. I bought a Stratus 3.0 from my local track/shop and discovered when I got home that it is the carpet version. The track I run on is indoor asphalt (SoCal raceway). Im wondering if I should exchange the carpet version for the AP version. Opinons?

Not sure if the AP version is even out yet. Lots of guys are running the Carpet version here on a permanent asphalt track and are liking it.

I have them both, the AP is the original 3.0 I believe. Quite visible differences between them. I hopefully will get to run the carpet version tomorrow.

Stratus 3.0 AP will have 1476-01 molded into the corner of the windshield.

They both say PF 1476 on the windshield.

The carpet has bumps in the hood area for the shock tower and not so pronounced ridges up either side of the windshield.

I would just run whatever body you have and try not to hit anything during your race......haha, way more important then the shape of the edges of the windshield, etc.

Seriously, the carpet body is designed to be run lower on the car with smaller wheel wells(among other small changes), so you should be able to just run it at a normal outdoor, or rather asphalt, hieght, with no trouble.........Jim

I have the original version (I guess this is the AP now); it also has the bumps for shock tower clearance. I bought it in Feb., and the C version was not released until April.

No, the original an AP version DON'T have bumps on the hood. I have the original 3.0, no bumps on the hood. Awesome body though. Works perfect with rubber on carpet.

Could someone then explain to me how I was able to purchase four of these bodies (with hood bumps) from two different sources in mid-Feb (LHS and Great Planes) that did not say anything other than "Stratus 3.0" on the label before the C version even came out?

I bought 2 stratus 3.0's One in March, was the AP, just look at the protoform website you can see what each body looks like.

The one I just bought at the end of April has the bumps that the Carpet version has on the protoform website.

Arun there is a 3.0 thread lurking here that Dale came on and explained what happened.

In a nutshell, Body released, too good for carpet, re molded to remove a touch of downforce, Original is run outdoors lots of good things said, Dale re-created the original mold and re-released new version.

Now we are at 2 versions of the car Carpet and AP=Asphalt.
Part numbers I think are
1476 carpet
1476-1 AP

Only problem is... at least in my case, both bodies have PF-1476 stamped on the windshield yet they are clearly different. And for that matter, the carpet body came in packaging that says 1476-00 when its not the AP.

A friend bought what he thought was the carpet version as well, the LHS had labelled it as the carpet, but what I think has happened is my body was packaged incorrectly... - A carpet shell in an AP package, tho the LHS labelled it carpet lol
