Now that the carbon reinforced bits are available I guess this is gonna seem silly, but I managed to stiffen up the standard side links pretty damned easily.

Cut out a piece if lexan about 15mm shorter than the side link and about 4 mm wide. Using CA, glue it down the side link. I tried this and it bloody works like a charm haha. No option parts available in Malaysia just yet so this was a cheap and nasty but quick fix.

So my SP1 arrived this week, started building it today.

Anyone had any trouble with the 5mm Pivot balls in the 1st step? Mine seem to have about 1mm of slop when I tighten up the 3x6mm Flat head screws, even split a pivot ball trying to tighten it.

It seems as though when they stamped the hex in the pivot balls it crushed the threads. I cut down my screws or you can use associated pivot balls. I started to drill and tap them but it's tough, only did 2 and gave up.

I best use the 5mm screws I have for my TC6.1 then. Thought it was to do with the hex in the top

Those stock pivot balls are complete garbage. Do not waste your time. Get the AE ones I recommended earlier in this thread.

If you want to use the kit pivot balls, buy a tap, and clean out the threads before use.

Yes, the swedging process to create the hex is the culprit. You can use a 3x5 FHS for kit build or 3x6 with a 1mm shim to lift the side links. Or, as mentioned, swap out for Associated. The football will have the same issue.

Has anyone experienced the car turning in nice and sharp into a corner and then feel a little wobbly through and out? I seem to be experiencing that now. Unsure if it because of the side links or something else. Too much slop maybe? I run on med grip asphalt with a Ride R1s.

Burt,
Just saw your post. I actually have the pivot balls, I just haven't listed them on the store yet. Your package is on the way already otherwise I would have included them

I've ran into the same problem with the AE ones. I had to tap those as well. Get yourself a 3mm tap anyway...there will be other times you will need it. The 3mm locknuts that I have seen from several brands lately have the nylon ring too small so they spin when trying to tighten down the football...just run a tap through those too and you will find assembling the car to be much easier.
