Default Tamiya #84122 Lotus Type 79 - F104W

I just got the Tamiya #84122 Lotus Type 79 - F104W kit. Look like they re-issued the Lotus 79 of Andretti and fitted it to a F104W chassis. I could not find much info about the kit, so I thought I'd start a thread and post some pictures of it.

This car was built for my son who was rooting for Kimi all last year. Something about the black and gold car he really liked. He was too young to remember when Kimi was at Ferrari. I got him the inexpensive Futaba Frequency Hopping controller with an extra receiver so he can control both of his cars with the same controller.

Sorry these are in reverse order, I'm using a new image hosting platform. Photobucket keeps crashing.
Here is the rear wing under construction:

My son is only 6 but he has been driving RC cars for one year now and he is pretty good. Of course, the big bumper on this car is the reason I we got this one, rather than getting one of the decal sets to convert the Ferrari F60 into Kimi's 2012 Lotus. I also set the throttle end point adjustment to about 45% and set the diff so it slips a little under full throttle. Daddy's little secrets to keeping this body looking good

I'm very impressed with the Lotus 79 kit and the body. Makes me want to another kit and build it as the #6 Ronnie Peterson (RIP).

BTW I wanted to share my method of applying the decals. I put Windex on the decal and body then heat it with a hairdryer. This heats and softens the decal and makes it conform to the part. Works great for things like the helmet. I got the helmet decals on with no creases this way. Also, the air intake screens went on with no creases using this method.

This is my car that my son will be up against. I'm a little at risk for him crashing into me, but racing RC cars with my son is one of the most important things in my life right now.
