Revtech 21.5 ROAR approved?

Can anyone explain why both Trinity's revtech and D3.5 21.5 motors are sold as ROAR approved, but not listed on the approval list on roar's web site?

Madulla 03-03-2013 12:41 PM

The LRP X12 is also not on the list.

JCarr 03-03-2013 04:12 PM

After motor shopping all day, I noticed something about these motors. They don't say roar approved, they say roar spec. kinda makes you think the same thing though.

Odin544 03-03-2013 11:17 PM

It's really simple. Manufacturers can claim whatever they want. If it's not on ROAR's list it is not ROAR approved. Go off the ROAR list to be sure.

This might explain it > http://www.rctech.net/forum/chat-lou...er-d3-5-a.html

That actually has nothing to do with it. That is about the 17.5 motor only.

Novak's high rpm 17.5 motor is similar as they claim "engineered to meet ROAR specs"...which is likely a very true statement, but its not ROAR approved yet (or wasn't last time I looked).

The Revtech claims "ROAR legal", which likely means that it is designed to spec, but no, its not actually ROAR approved. The wording they've chosen to use is misleading at best.

Kyle GSR 03-04-2013 06:14 AM

The other thing I have noticed with the ROAR approval list is the dates. The Tekin gen 2 motors just became roar legal but the approval date is October 1, 2012?

EAMotorsports 03-04-2013 06:14 AM

Most companies do not submit the 21.5's to ROAR for approval due to the high fees associated with it versus the actual sales of them since there is no "official" class for 21.5 at ROAR events. They are supposedly built to the "ROAR specs" for a 21.5 though just not submitted for approval.

I'm looking at the list now and the gen2 21.5 is not on there, but on stormer hobbies it says the are roar approved.

it is there, the roar approved list is a little out of order, look at the upper end of the spec 540 motors

RedBullFiXX 03-04-2013 07:17 AM

As 21.5 is a fairly large market
I would think the cost of $350 + submitting 3 motors wouldn't be difficult to recoup for any major motor mfg ?

From a quick look at the list
Most known motor companies have ROAR approved 21.5's
Even the D3 21.5 is approved
Curious that the LRP X12 is not on the list

ROAR list of approved motors

ROAR approval processing forms

Who races 21.5T outside of F1 and USGT which are a tiny minority of racers compared to all the other electric classes. No ROAR class uses them.

The cost of submitting a motor is pretty substantial because as well as the $350 fee and three motors, ROAR also wants proof that you have substantial stock as well. The old approval form used to also ask for proof that you had a minimum stock of 2000 motors of each type you submitted.

Kyle GSR 03-04-2013 08:36 AM

At my local track usgt and 17.5 were pretty equal in number of racers.
After what happened with the d3.5 17.5, our track has a new rule for this season of ROAR approved motors only. Now I'm sitting on 3 paper weights. d3.5 17.5, d3.5 21.5, and revtech 21.5.

R3VoLuTiOn 03-04-2013 08:40 AM

^^ talk to your track operator then.

We run all 21.5s but the d3.5

ROAR is the US RC governing body
Out of curiosity, why would this concern you ?

There are many 21.5 approved motors on the list
Perhaps you should enquire with those mfg's about why they went thru the process ?

Kyle GSR 03-04-2013 08:57 AM

Don't think that's going to work after the D3.5 beat down he received in our trophy race last year. :)

yeah, i also missed it the first time through, but Tekin strikes me as a by the book sort of operation, so it forced me to have a second look.

i ended up copying the approval list into excel and sorting on mfg and model before i found it!

If you look at the top of the approval list you can click on each column and it will sort the list by that column. Wind, Manufacture, Date approved, etc. It makes it much easier to find what your looking for by doing it that way.

LOL....sorry to ruin all your excel work. It took me a long time to notice that on the battery approval side. It is very convenient though once you now!

yeah, just feel a little foolish, it reminds me of an incident years ago where a friend's father removed the gas tank from his vehicle to figure out there was dirt in the carb.
