Which battery/motor connectors for a rookie?

Hi,

can you suggest any? I'm racing 17T motors, at the moment i am using the tamiya connector, but this seems unsafe to me.

What's the easiest to solder?

Switch those Tamiyas to Deans Ultra plugs. Less resistance and will not melt on you.

how to solder them onto the plug? is there a instruction sheet?

It doesn't matter which post you solder the pos and neg to...just make sure the other plug has them soldered the same way!
