Default Spring rate

Ciao to all,

one question, many spring of our shocks are rated in LBS, so we have 1.7, 2.0.3.0 lbs springs, in the past the same spring was rated as soft, medium etc..., now what it means 1.7 lbs?, i mean such spring with 1.7 lbs how many mm or cm will be compressed?

Ciao
Max
