Parma Euro Panther Help!
 

Haven't raced in 25 years but recently came across my 1988 Parma Euro Panther.
I had raced this a bit and then got in to off roading for a few years, then got married and you know the rest of the blah blah blah.
But now finding my Panther kinda sparked my interest again. My only problem, the motor, electronics, and probably some other misc' parts will be needed to make it whole again.
Any one that could help me out on the motor needed and what servos to use would be greatly appreciated.

Alot has changed since I had raced with this unfortunatly I had sold off the motor and electronics. Looking over all the NEW technology my question is what do I need motor wise or what will work, alot of you most certainly know alot more about this than I do. If someone could shed some light on where and what I need to make this Panther run again I sure would appreciate the info.

You should check out the 1/12th scale thread. There are a few people there who have setup old saddle pack style chassis to run the 1s LiPo on one side of the chassis with the electronics on the other.

As for what to get...well that depends. Are you taking it to the local track or just going to blast around in a parking lot? If racing it you'll need to find out what class they are running. I think most of the US is running a 17.5 blinky class for 1/12th if they have a 1/12th class. Ours is 13.5 blinky. Blinky refers to the profile in the ESC that has no additional timing for the motor. There is a specific light(s) that blink so that tech inspectors at a race can visually see the car is running a legal profile. If your just playing around in a parking lot you'll probably find 17.5 too slow for your liking and I would suggest a 13.5 motor...beyond that it starts to border on uncontrollable at least for me. For an ESC you'll either need to get one with a voltage booster built in or run a separate voltage booster or battery pack to power the receiver. You'll need a new charger as well as your old one will not charge the new batteries.

Thank you for the input I will do some more research on your recomendations and check out the 1/12 thread as you mentioned too. I will have to look into the class running here but I think I read about the blinky class, again have to do some more homework. Where is the best place to get a motor from for vintage cars, I'm at a real loss there.

The new BL motors are still 540 can motors so they may fit in the pod. Some people have managed to shoe horn it into a 12L4 by taking off the left side bulkhead. So likely you'll run the same type of motor as everyone else. Unless you are specifically looking for a vintage brushed motor.

Thank you all for the help. I did see and read some threads from Bob Stormer I most certianly will hook up with him he does seem to be into alot of vintage rides.

Oh and I almost forgot...there's a classic 1/12th thread around here somewhere...you should check that out as well.
