Hey
Just thinking if you are after a pro tourer purchase the spec r R1 and buy your son the Spec R S1 by reading the thread about the chassis am thinking of getting one myself
The S1 being the low end version with the bare essentials and by the looks comes with what you need.
The R1 is the top end version, should be good for yourself.
The parts are mostly shared between the two, You can purchase it from www.rcmart.com
But if your mind is set on the new Serpent its up to you, just my two cents.
keep us updated
cheers

My son (now 14) always ran a the same thing I was running... I just kept double the spares.. Now he's into 1-12 scale and I have a WGT which still share several common parts. The one thing I think is the most important is giving them a car that reacts well and drives well reguardless of what it is. If the thing is tough for you to get around the barriers clean, it'll be way worse for a little kid just learning.
On the same subject..my grandson is five and will start his adventure in RC this Thursday...I dug out my HPI RS4 micro and put a small 180 motor in it. This should be fun!

I like the 6.1 option cause its less expensive and almost everyone stocks AE but for your son the Xray is super strong. Plus the T4 and T3 have some compatible parts. The T4 is super easy to make very fast out of the box......build it. The T3 is a good strong choice too. I had a T3 2012 and I couldn't break anything if I tried.

But if your gonna get the Serpent atleast get the New one Erxy or whatever.
