In short, 64dp has a closer range of possible gear ratios, but 48dp is stronger.
I prefer using 48dp for that very reason

Indoors or clean outdoor track - 64dp.
A outdoor track which is prone to dust, dirt etc...48dp

hmm.. i use 48s now.... but ever so often i get a missing tooth on the spur...
also the pinions make a real rakket... i find the 64s to be quiter...

indoors on carpet 64 pitch is your best bet. It makes things run smoother but just dont hit a pipe and hold our throttle with a brushed motor. Say goodbye to that spur gear

ok... i just hate how noisey the 48 pinions are... is there something i can do to make it a bit quited... soak it in brasso hehehehe

I would check for any chipped/worn teeth on your spur/pinion gear first
We have 32dp in the uk too, imagine how noisy they are...

As everyone said 48p is more durable than the 64p.
Example in the track that we have over here in Rhodos wich is an outdoor ( we run mostly nitro) there are 2 tc with the same motor and esc ( lpr spedo and vortex motor 3t )
The one is tc5 with 48p and the other one tf-5 stallion with 64p.
The tc5 haves no problems with the spur gear but the stallion until now have broke 3 spur gears.

I run parking lot tracks and chew up just as many 48's as I do 64's so I stick with 64...I like the finer adjustment. Whatever you run I have to put a word in for XRay spurs...I have run Kimbrough gears since racing gold tub RC10's and recently tried an XRay spur and I will never go back. They are so much more precise all around...I had to re-learn how to set gear mesh as they require very little slack and the drivetrain is much smoother and quieter.

Hey...
Funny you should mention Xray and spur gear in the same sentense...
A good mate of mine ran a t2 008 in mod.... and it continually broke teeth
of the "xray" spur and kept snapping and chewing up belts...
he eventualy sold both and bought Schumi Mi3's heheheh
btw we run outdoors , foam on tarmac...

but honestly i dont think that car liked the conditions..
there are 2 other guys that run rays that have similar problems...
they changed to 009's , let see if it improves for them...
